    Hi guys,

I wonder if anyone could shed some light on how you would go about insuring an engagement ring? Do most jewellers offer to sell you some form of insurance with it or is there a particular company anyone knows that deals in it? I am living at home with my parents so do not have my own house insurance to put it on really.

If anyone could advise on it id really apreciate it.

    Thanks :D

ASAIK You could put it on your Parent's insurance

You can get it named as a specific contents of the house, and have it insurance for outside as well
Again the home owner would need to add it to their policy

Thanks guys. I would rather not have to put it on my parents insurance. It just seems impractical for when I move out. I thought there might be a way to just have it fully insured on its own. I know Ive been offered insurance on item ive bought before in one particular jewllers, however, i thought they offered it more so because it was a chain and had lots of branches.

    Thanks for the help though.

if you contact Hibernian Insurance and ask them to quote you for an "all risks" policy for an item of Jewellery. They will need a valuation for it and may not provide cover until they received it.

you could also take out a small contents policy for say €20k and add your ring as a specified item to that policy - your taking €300-400 tops.

Give Hibernian a buzz, I recently insured a ring for €18k with them on an All Risks Policy and it cost me a little over €200.

    hope this helps. x

That sounds great. I just happen to have a friend who has a cousin works for them. Will see if I can swindle his contact details from him to get in touch.

    Thanks a million!!

PS. It must be some ring if its worth 18k!!! ;)

Sorry for not replying to this sooner; haven't been bothering with this forum too much lately.

The most common way to insure your engagement ring is on your house insurance, or on a parents insurance if you don't have your own. However, we always recommend specifying ALL RISKS, as that should cover you for holiday making and nights out; contents only can relate only to loss or damage at home. When taking out a policy, check with your insurer exactly what their policies cover; it can vary from company to company.

One quote I heard today was €10 extra per €1,000 in value for all risks on a house policy.

For those without their own house, or renting accomadation, FBD offer a stand alone policy. As far as I am aware they are the only company who offer this, and quotes I've heard haven't been extortionate, IMHO.

    HTH.
