Started getting disk read errors about a week ago but after a reset it worked ok. Then yesterday it wouldnt read any disk even after a reset. Left it powered off all day then tried it last night and its working again now.
Any one else had this issue? Is my Wii going to give up after its just over a year old?

I've had this a few times but only with my wii sports disc. Powering the wii off (not just standby) for a minute or two seems to fix it.

Did you find it made more noise than usual when it was trying to read the disk?

I've found this with mario galaxy. When i start the console it can read the disk because mario galaxy appears on the screen. But sometimes when I start the game the console starts making strange repetetive noises and won't play the disk. Once I restart the wii it usually works. Dunno what the story is. Only seems to be happening since I updated the os version.

I have had a few disk errors with Mario Galaxy as well, could this be a problem?
I know using badly structured "backups" used to play merry hell with the DC and PS, the extra work for the laser used to lead to an early drive failure, although I'm not suggesting any such thing goes on here!

Not sure if this started after the software upgrade or after the daughter started playing mysims. One of these seems to be causing the problem.
Looked it up on the nintendo site and there only fix is to send it away to them? Started to do some research on the net and it looks like it could be a common terminal problem. So far I have found no sugested fixes.
Fingers crossed the little box keeps going

i got the same with the first Mario Galaxy i bought. loads up the start screen but then made all sorts of noises. replaced the game and never had a problem with the new one.

Its given up today and just wont read any disk. I have switched it off and fingers crossed it will work later today.
Is there a way of rolling back to an older version of the software? Is there a full system reset? One of these may help

You can reformat the Wii in the settings, it stopped the error message for me, hope this helps.

so formated and so lost everything. tried a disk and still have same disk read error

It turns out that formating the system will not roll back the software. So you loose all the games and internet but keep the latest version of software.
Now I am getting a little pi?@d off with this. I have never had any issues that couldnt be fixed with the playstations. Good job I have my PS3 to play on but that dosnt help the kids.

I think you'd better return it for warranty replacement/repair.
