    Hi
I'm looking for a good lens for my Canon EOS 400D, I want a decent telephoto lens , one thats good for photographing animals (maybe 70 - 300 range??)

but I don't wanna be switching lenses to much because of sensor dust.

anyway is it possible to get 18-300 ?? or 24-300 ??

maybe it will be ok if i do get a 70-300 and change lenses often,
im sure a rocket blower would solve any future dust problems ??

so anyone know of a good model lens ? in each category ?
wide - zoom, and reg - zoom ?

and a good place to get them ? (price wise and reliability)

If you fancy a trip to London, you could do a lot worse than Camera Cafe off Tottenham Court Rd.

Tokina do a 28-300mm if I remember correctly... don't know about image quality though (unlikely to be astounding).

Do you mean this one? Manual zoom only as far as I can tell, which may or may not be a problem.

Tamron has a similar version, which includes VC (Vibration Compensation, their version of IS/VR), as does Sigma (without any stabilisation).

For a 18-250mm range try the Tamron 18-250mm - nearly that magic 18-300mm range! :D

Ah, my bad... I was thinking of Tamron's VC version.

400D has a sensor cleaner if I remember rightly.

I switch lenses fairly regularly in the most forgiving of conditions, eg, a very windy beach, and so far, I have not had to deal with sensor dust. On the other hand, I am extremely fast at doing a lens change.

The zoom I would recommend is a Sigma 70-300mm DG APO which you can get in any camera shop in the city for under 200E (normally). I still use the kitlens and have gotten very decent photographs out of so don't generally listen to complaints about it.

The 400D's sensor cleaner is not that great, that's why they include dust removal software on the CD that comes with the camera.

Not quite the 18mm but Canon do a decent 28 - 300mm f3.5-5.6L IS . L glass and image stabilisation to boot.
