The biggest disappointment I had in 2007 was the purchase I made on the net of a brand new Martin D28.I had heard sooooo much about this particular model, but had never actually played one.But when I saw it on the net at a good price, and I had a few quid together I decided to jump at it.
First disappointment was the action. Why do Martin allow guitars out so badly adjusted ?It would have been easier to play a cheese slicer.
No matter how I tried I couldnt bring myself to like this guitar.Even with the action lowered, the tone, while bassy and loud ,was not up to what I would expect from an instrument in this price range.
It might sound great in 10 years time but I cant wait that long.
Martin have a great reputation, but with dogs like this on the loose,it cant last.

Personally I prefer Taylor's tones over Martin, and looks too. Not a fan of dreadnoughts. If I was buying a new acoustic I'd probably buy it in a store rather than online, you get a real feel for it and I think with an acoustic (especially one that costs a good bit) that counts a lot. :)

You must have gotten a poor example.
Granted, the action on my d28 was high to start with (and the heavy strings didnt help) But from what I hear all Martins have a high action and tend to need a set-up (Nut/saddle filing) to get them just so.

Mine has a rich bass tone that is unmistakeable - A Martin dreadnought's tone is unique.

They're well put together (they'd want to be for the price)
So you can be really heavy handed with it.

Have you been playing it much?

I've heard somewhere that they ship the guitars out with high action so you can adjust it according to your preferences.
