oh really what sky package you looking at? I as under the impression sky cost more with multiroom costing 15 euro per month on top of the sky subscription.

personally ive so f***ing had it with ntl id pay 100 euro extra a month for sky. they are the worst most pathetic excuse for a provider ive ever has the misfortune of dealing with, that is if "dealing" with them means being on hold for an hour every time you attempt to talk to someone in there. how they get away with it is beyond me.

Seriously, did you just join up to post this! Are you a sky employee or do you work for an installer?

I ring every month to pay my bill and am never on hold more than 2 or 3 minutes.

Apart from paying my bill the only other times I have ever had to call them was for box office stuff. Calling on the night of a big fight can lead to a lengthy wait but then thats my own fault for not booking earlier. :)

I may be wrong but my maths says your pack
    basic digital 26 + sports 28 + second box 8.5 = 62.5 per month

maybe this is because each of your calls to them was relating to you paying them money and not looking for support. but then again i suppose the fact that you do not need to ring for support is a good thing

I tried 3 times this week to ring upc (Couldn't get their new freephone number to work on my mobile, So had to call from work, Was holding for over 30mins each time). I wanted to up my broadband package (Im on a old package and wanted the 3meg one), Also wanted to get digital TV. Glad i didn't get through to them now, found out most of the channels are Free on Sat (Via Sky), So will be installing 4 Sky boxes in the house (Using all the ntl cables that are in my box on the side of the house to distribute the satellite signal to various rooms) I have 3 UK FTV cards coming via my parents address in Essex (Same as the sky boxes are coming from) I am going then to put an Irish subbed box in the living room (Just basic channels, 4 mixes) and the 3 others in kitchen, bedrooms.

Just found out via this forum I can cancel my Upc TV now and just have the BB at an extra cost of €6, So i will not upgrade my BB.

I have written to UPC and given them 30 days notice of this cancellation and have explained fully how incompetent they are & this has now lost them business. I have asked for them to confirm the receipt of my letter, but im not holding my breath.

Why oh why couldnt Mr Branson take over our cable network in ROI as well, instead of these losers we have.

Perhaps i should write to him as well LOL!:D

fair play to you snaps,a lot more people need to do this to sort these ****s out.let me know how your new set up goes, what youre recieving, etc,

Im nearly all set up now, I had a 80cm dish already pointing at 28east, i installed a quad output lnb, ran the cables to the junction box. All connected up and i already have 1 sky box, which im hoping to get subbed up now from sky ireland. i have tested all the points with this this box and all seems well. 3FTV boxes should be with me mon or tue as they were dispatched on thursday.

I am using digitalalb with a technomate with a 1.1m motorised dish for all my sports.

Sky boxes seem a lot better option as you have all the interactive stuff. 2nd hand boxes are a wash on ebay.

I can only agree about NTL/UPC support. No reply to emails, unable to get through on phone. But they managed to send me letter changing to direct debit and I got through to accounts no problem.

Well ive heard nothing from them. As i have given them notice by both letter and email, Can I just now cancel my direct debit. Im not in contract as ive been with them for nearly 5 years (BB for 2 years). Bet if I cancel my DD they will contact me.

their BB is worth keeping IMHO so just cancel the TV option, they will charge you an extra supplement of 6euro per month on top of you BB charge as you will still have access to the TV channels as the same cable carries BB,TV & any other service they happen to provide in your area. ;);)

You only have a decreasing quantity of poor quality analogue without the TV option.

You take anything not paid for from cable and you are committing theft of service.

Encouraging people or helping people to steal Cable TV is a crime.

IMO the 6euro extra per month covers the "poor quality analogue" tv, otherwise what's it for ??? & we are talking about existing customers here.

So it's just as valid as what the law dictates? I just want to be sure that this is fool proof before I start knowingly stealing.

this 6euro extra charge allows them to claw back some revenue from people like me who had to pay the full cost of their basic tv
service first in order to then get their BB service, now they have changed their T&C & will now install BB only for new customers or in my case allow you to unsubscribe from their TV service whilst keeping their BB service.
They don't say that the 6euro is for the TV service because they would have folk ringing up looking to get connected expecting to pay 6euro per month for TV,....if your really bothered & have an afternoon to waste why not call ntl & see what they say about this, I don't think it's stealing by watching TV in this instance. also if I decide to turn off my modem for 1 week & plug the cable into my TV will they give me a refund of the BB fee for that week ? I bet not,..even though they can view my stats & see I did'nt log on during that week.

So its theft if i cancel my contract with them by writting? I dont know what you mean watty, Or was your answer to some one else?

Lensman, You may have a valid point about keeping my BB with them. Not much else cheaper out there. Dont fancy Irish BB or Clearwire(Dont actually think Clearwire is available west part of Galway city) I dont have phoneline!!!

You can cancel the TV part ? This saves you 6 euro per month only ?
How does one go about this ?

No,....thats not what happens, lets say you have ntl BB @ 20euro per month & TV @ 24euro per month = total of 44euro per month, then you cancel the tv package saving 24 euro but then the add a 6euro suppliment for talking BB on it's own so your then paying 26euro total.

they are the best BB provider around IMO, they are calling to replace my modem today as they are upgraging my 6mb to 12mb in march free,..also a 18mb option if I want it,...not free.
