Two incidents I witnessed in two days, and possibly saved a few elderly people a few bob.

1st incident was yesterday, was walking home from school and noticed 3 of them kncoking at peoples doors looking for "spare change", then 2 of them walked upto a house using their usual procedure but this time asked if they could go in and get some water, the old man replied no, then they looked to be trying to force there way into the house putting there foot at the door, so me and my mate stopped made sure nothing happens and then they walk off.

2nd incident, ironically it was 1 of the three who I seen the day before. So was in town today waiting for a bus (121 just up from Clerys) and one of the same gypsies walk up behind this old man had put her hand into his back pocket and I stopped right beside her and he walked off (me making sure she didn't get any money, etc...). Then got a load of verbal trollox off the gypsie and then her husband/brother whoever it was, came over and I jumped onto the bus.


Must say I love when I see something like this happening, as most people wouldn't take a second look and bother stopping, and I done it twice in two days.:cool:


Both incidents where seen by people but nobody bothered to stop and make sure nothing happened. It really amazes me how people don't look after the elderly, or in fact anyone these days.

Them pavee's are all the same. We have the soldiers now all we need is to gather them up and shove them out.
They rob and beat up people and get away with it most of the time. The little children then are rared fighters. Always gagging for a fight and a euro:rolleyes:

Should be a case of if someone is in another EU country (from their native one that is) and they commit a crime they get sent home and some sort of mark on their passport to show that they are banned from the country in which they commited the crime, this whole unrestricted travel thing is a nice idea but it has some major downsides to it too.

We could lock them up for crimes but when it comes to keeping them out they'd have to tell the guys checking the passports to stop just having a glance to see it's a passport and not a video rental card that they are holding up and instead take a proper look (The Dutch police seemed to at least take it more seriously, taking it and having a good look as well as noting some of the details into a log book). Why should any country effectively house (jail = free roof, bed and food) people who aren't native (thus not that country's responsibility) and only came there to commit crimes? it is rare you will see people looking out for one another in town. but i really love it when i do see it

people in town causing trouble ...you don't know where they're from, their background, or their temper. they could literally be anyone and could have done anything in their past.

i saw an oldish man (early 50's i'd say) getting stomped and kicked outside bus aras about 2 years ago. he was shouting for the guy doing it to stop, and he genuinely looked terrified. i freaked out and was nearly crying, standing a few metres away, because no one was doing a ****ing thing. i was 18 at the time and im a girl so i couldn't exactly 'hop in', but no one did anything until the guy stopped kicking him and walked off.




i also saw a 'gypsy' shouting abuse and squaring up to an elderly woman at the 145 busstop outside burger king on o connell street. the elderly woman hit her with her bag and was shouting leave me alone get away from me etc and your one ****ed off. she was getting the same bus as me so i was talking to her to see if she was alright and turns out she had baught a meal for this 'gypsy' because she was asking people for money in burger king.

so she got abused for giving food rather than money.

what the **** like.

Wish there were more people like you around! Came home about a year ago to find a gypsy (only in her teens herself) trying to get in the front door past my poor terrified and confused sister (who has Down's Syndrome). She had been around the area earlier in the week and my dad had sent her running, but I think she must have been a calculating, sly girl, deliberately coming back to prey on my sister (as my sister had opened the door to her first time too). I went mad at her, she kept trying to come in, and was audacious enough to lean forward and try to rifle through a bag of goods we had for charity, pointing out what she wanted! :eek:

Do people actually find these people intimidating enough that they would be scared of them??

I would describe myself as having a controlled manner, but if one of these people was to come up to me and begin to start screaming abuse at me as some of the posters say they have witnessed, I know I would be very, very quick to level up to them and scream back at them - Dosen't matter how much of a scene it could make, they seem to get away with it so why shouldn't I? I for one have no fear of telling these people were to go with themsevles, should they start off with me.

I find Dublin is becoming too much like New York and London now where people are so busy rushing here, there and everywhere that they can't be bothered getting involved in these situations because it's taking up their time. It's a very sad scene nowadays, whereas years ago when someone was in trouble everyone would step in to help out!!

Well in both my incidents I've talked of, they were old people so I'd say they would feel intimidated. Personally I don't feel imtimidated I'm 17 and used to box, so can defend myself against some obese gypsy trying to mug an elderly person.

It's only recently they been knocking around to houses in my around, sure one of my mates nan answered the door to one, foolishly she offered to go and get the gypsy a glass of water and my mate walks out to the door and the gypsy is about to walk up the stairs in the house:eek:

Them Gypsies are mental, about 15 of em got on one end of the luas and i was at the other and within about 5mins the smell was so bad that i nearly started gagging. Also one started breast feeding her baby, it was so sexy!

In fairness the op has a point though, those elderly people are the people that built this great nation....we should be looking out for our own.

I'd like to think that when I get older there will be some young dudes like him looking to help out an auld fella. Fairplay op, we could do with more people who actually give a sh1t....
