Finished the catwalk shoot yesterday... some interesting shots to be had. But in all honesty I preferred shooting the football match today for the paper.

The catwalk shots have been touched up (and then horribly compressed for web viewing). The football ones are untouched. Comment and critique welcomed!

Do the fashion shots look underexposed?

Thanks for looking and giving constructive criticism! :)

ah i used to go to school with the girl in the first catwalk picture....hilarious

we didnt get on at all

like the sports shots but people might say the action should fill more of the shot i wouldnt be "qualified" enough to comment on the fashion shots but what was the fashion show for out of curiosity?

edit; in two fo the fashion ones the guy in the background draws your attention away i think but thats hardly your fault

For the first photo, I'd crop it down tighter.

For the fashion ones, I really like them. The tones seem a bit off though. Maybe a white balance setting? I don't think they're underexposed.

    my 2 cents

fooball one the first is the best you can see the 2 guys trying to get on the ball you can see the effort.

fashion last one is the best but you need to get rid of that guy in the background I think its the same guy that was in the first photo lol the light is a bit bright left arm but that can be sorted.

second one is good the female model is perfect but the male looks a bit timid. God love him:).
dont like the first one at all it looks like a high ceiling and different kinds of light coming from all dirns.

cons backgrounds in all three shots could be better. If it was a one of those charity. you didn't have any control over it.

pros you get good expressions out of the models you action shots were good too.

    I don't think I have the knowledge to critically analyse your sports photos, but the fashion ones;

The first one, it seems a wee bit soft and I would have prefered a much less distracting background.

The second one I like more. I know it was a catwalk, but getting her other arm into the shot would have made her seem a little bit... well... you know... armless.

Third one, great for a catwalk series. Shame about the person in the background though.

The fourth makes me want to reach for my clone tools to get rid of yer man in the bg.

I wouldn't be too worried about white balancing them unless they're needed for the designers - The orange light gives them a bit of warmth.

Not bad at all for your first time :)

Was Luke Skywalker in your class aswell.

The shots are great but not to keen on both subject matter, the girls are nice the football well,homo-erotic covers football pretty well:p:D

    re: football ones

broadly nice shots - i don't know too much about the sports side of things but i would imagine tighter crops would be appropriate.

    re: fashion ones

as a general point - watch out for backgrounds although granted at times you can't do much about them.

1st one a little soft perhaps - also maybe to crop the roof plaster work out as much as possible.

number 2 - quite nice. nicely taken and nice depth of field control. the light (imho) is a little harsh on the right hand side.

number 3 - the male/female models one is quite nice. it is somewhat of a contrast between the ultra confidence of her and yes the timidness of him - how and ever, Calvin Klein may in the future pay big bucks for a bit of that timidness ;o) nice take though. you also just about get away with his fingers but it is a very tight crop (camera / postprocessed?).

number 4 - lovely subject, again watch for background. I wonder about the light balance
    - the lighting from the side is overpowering and whilst this may be a feature rather than a flaw, it has cast a shadow over her chest from her left breast.

Nice job though - well done.

Thanks guys for the comments - I'll be cropping tighter for the sports shot (I think the paper will run with the first photo)

As for the fashion show, it was "Trinity's Next Top Model" competition, run in association with the LGBT society (rainbow week in Trinity right now). It was for charity and the winners got a modelling contract.

That guy in the background is the catwalk instructor or something...he kept popping his head out to see how the contestants got on ;) I'd clone him out but it would take too much time away from studying :D

Oh and the timid guy was one of the winners of the contest :)

Seemed really timid though (ah bless!) The photo wasn't cropped (my back was up against the wall and I had my telephoto on).

You'd swear you were studying something important :p

Sure, wouldn't want to be sued for professional negligence in 10 years time because I spent too much time photoshopping a fashion designer ;)

Just realised that I didn't put many of the "risque" images on here... sorry to disappoint guys!

Thanks for the help guys - I think I'll take the images off flickr now just in case the newspaper doesn't want it published online yet.

Mods, you can lock this thread if you want (or let it die a peaceful death as it wanders off the front page... :))
