Yes, you are in the right place ;)

As you may have noticed our name has been changed to Music Production following a discussion and vote a while back. This name is intended to be a concise summing-up of the wide range of Music Technology/Production/Recording/Mixing/Pro Audio/Live Sound/Home Production/Shiny Things discussions we like to encourage. The name hasn't (yet) been changed in the DHTML drop-down menu at the top of the page but when it is I hope ye'll still be able to find us ;)

I'm looking for some help with Recording, Mixing and and making some Pro-Audio. I'm obviously in the wrong forum though...

Seriously though, new name makes more sense.

Could there be an argument for creating another Forum, or Sub Forum for Pro Recording? I think it's fair to say hobbyists would be interested at what (Semi) Pros are at, the opposite probably isn't true.

Embarassingly it took me like half an hour to find the place.

woohoo. finally got rid of that bloody pro-audio silliness. I second a separate 'pro-recording' forum. like gearslutz. we could call it boardslutz, though the ladies lounge may feel threatened.
doubt it would get enough traffic though.

I'd say there could be an argument made for it alright, but I'm not sure if I would support the idea personally. If the place was far busier than it is then I might go for it but I think the traffic we get is about right for one forum.

Also, I think the scope of our community is more complex than hobbyists and pros. We get everyone from DJs to bands to live sound guys to studio owners and everything in between, all at various levels of experience. Everyone has a common interest in music production/music technology, I don't think it would be either easy or beneficial to drive a wedge in there anywhere.

Having said that, if enough support for a new forum/subforum is expressed I'm sure the admins will consider it.

A rose by any other name....

I think a Subforum would be overkill, there's simply not enough numbers from what I can see anyway.

I think a sub forum would only be neccesary if it really becomes neccesary. If you know what I mean.

Great to get our name change though!

    Ok ....

Can I have my own Sub Forum by myself then?...

Seriously though, I agree if there isn't enough activity there's no point. Perhaps we should be more proactive on our MySpace sites or similar in getting people to join Boards.ie?

There's no doubt that that more people are active the more piss taking and pontificating I can do...

Well tbh there are a number of audio sites that would be far better, generally this forum is either taken up by fleeting posts from people just looking for info on demand (and not contributing anything) or else it's just the same posters all the time which makes some of the discussions a bit repetitive.
Also it seems like Musicians posting up questions I would associate with "Music Production" usually do so in either Bands/Musicians or Instruments so maybe with some pro-active moderation those threads could be moved here generating more traffic here in the process.

IMHO, PA's, mic's, speakers etc are not 'Instruments' and I could never understand why countless threads where left where they are when there was a more adequate place for them to go. It's the equivalent of going into the TV & Broadcasting forum and asking about iPods. Just my 2p.

True, there are a lot of far busier and more diverse forums out there. The unique thing about this place however, is that you get a uniquely Irish perspective on things, like boards.ie in general. I don't know many other similar hangout spots for Irish producers/engineers.

This is also true, I've noticed it myself. Thats a decision for the mods in the relevant forums though. If you see a thread that belongs elsewhere you can click the Report Post button -> report.gif to bring it to the moderators attention.

I dont think the semi pros have really posted here enough to warrant getting another Forum. I think lets try and use here for some of that discussion, like hobbyists arent exactly getting in our way by raising the viewcount, and if they ask questions, isnt that what the forum is for?

If it got to the stage where the barrage of novice posts on which 60 euro soundcard should i go for was washing away the pro posts then yes lets look at a new forum
