Satellite HD question...

Obviously to receive a HD satellite signal, one needs a HD satellite receiver, but can the HD satellite receiver output the HD signal through a non-HD cable, like SCART, to a non-HD TV? Does the TV have to be HD compatible, or can (any) of the HD receivers do some math on the HD signal, so it can be pushed down a SCART cable?

Yes it will output via the scart lead to a normal tv with a non HD picture.

To display protected content (e.g. from Sky) at an HD resolution you'd need HDMI, but it's possible to display HD resolutions of 720 and 1080 over component inputs on many sets. I think component inputs (often labelled as 'YPBR') would give a better picture than Scart. Check the specs of the set.

No HD content on SCART. only 576lines. Though RGB SCART in theory could have done HD as well as Component.

All HD broadcast is 1080i, set the Sky box to that and use HDMI. The TV can scale to its own native resolution if it is not 1080

All 1080p sets have deinterlacers for 1080i
I don't know if the Sky HD box rescales the 576 line SD on HDMI or leaves it for the TV to rescale. If the TV has good rescaler for RGB SCART, using RGB SCART as well as HDMI may give better results for regular TV, depending on what the SkyHD box is doing.

Avoid component for HD due to lack of HDCP and also it's an analogue connection. HDMI is a digital connection.

Are all the BBC Interactive Channels broadcast in HD mode?
