VW Polo - Jumps when engine is cold

I just have a quick query and was wondering if anyone could shed some light on the matter.

I drive a 00 polo 1.4 and every morning for the past week the car does not accelerate properly for about the first 2-5mins that i start driving. It is a very jumpy sort of acceleration with very little power.

I was wondering if this is just cause the engine is cold / the battery is low or is it a more serious problem and i should have it looked at?

    Replies appreciated!!!!

    thanks

Engine and/or oil cold. I have the same issue and usually start the car up and have a smoke. It's warm by the time I finish the cigarette.
If I try to drive away immediately the car will actually stop after 50 yards.

Thanks a million for the advice, i thought it was that but was scared it could have been something more serious.
