    Hi,

I've been offererd the chance to buy a 04 Volvo S40 with 60,000 miles on it.

It's the latest shape and is an ex company, FSH, has full leather and all the bells and whistles.

At 10,000 euro , it's a bargain but I have to keep it for a year or else.

Any problems I should look out for and any opinions about the car in general. The car is going to be the wife's runabout really.

Is it your old company car, or someone elses??? If it's yours, you should know what it has been like the last few years, if not, try track down the person that did drive it and see if they had any problems... Get a mechanic to check it out and make sure it;s not gonna blow up or spontaneously combust (like old Volvo's).... They're a nice car in fairness with a few bells and whistles, and 10k for a 4 year old family saloon with good mileage ain't bad.... Just had a quick look on carzone, the prices of 04 S40's kinda start at e13000 up but with higher mileage than 60k...

What size engine is it, and is it Diesel or Petrol etc.... Just check around.

Looks like a good deal. Petrol or diesel?

Many people think that an S40 is in the same class / size as a Toyota Avensis, VW Passat, etc. But the S40 is really a Ford Focus (the newer model) in disguise, which is a good thing. Nice to get the leather and the options!

It's a 1.8 petrol, which was putting me off a bit. I was going to get her the new 1.6 diesel focus come July for the 14% VAT and 100euro tax but this is way nicer than a standard focus.

    And 12 grand cheaper.

Not my car, some manager, but it looks very clean.

I can check it over myself but I was wondering more if there are any known common faults with these cars.

To be honest I would never have thought about a Volvo but a bargain is a bargain.
