Hi Guys, just wanted to get some feedback from you about this.

i will be commuting 3 or 4 days a week to work (Waterford to Dublin) and im looking for a car. I need something reliable and economic but also dont want to look like a total tit driving it. Ive seen 2 cars and wanted your feeback, Audi A4 1.8 (old enough car) and a renault megane (new model) 1.4.

I get a fuel allowance also (not great tho) and im thinking the audi as its a nice car...

Any advice from you guys welcome!

    The Fist

Between these 2, Go with the Audi. The engine will cope much better with the commuting and will be far more comfortable to drive. For these distances id recommend a decent engine size 1.8-2.0 and preferably diesel.

go for a diesel Audi with that sort of mileage

Im viewing the Audi today, problem is its petrol.... its a decent price tho and low mileage for a car this old. Would there be that much of a difference in the fuel cost/consumption in a diesel?

Go Diesel.I would not use petrol driving taht distance

Diesel all the way, better overtaking, quieter cruising. Renault diesels are among the best.

Skoda Octavia diesel. For that sort of driving it's the best you can get. Relaible, nice drive and OPEC hates it ( +45MPG )

Auto would be essential for usage like that IMO http://www.carzone.ie/usedcars/index.cfm?fuseaction=car&carID=318891 Cruise control would be great too.

I wouldn't agree with that, and I drive an automatic. You get best use of the auto around town, up and down the motorway with a torquey diesel and you won't be changing gear that often.

This car travels that very road on a regular basis!

    Can do up to 70mpg.

I have to throw a spanner in the works here,as they never sold them here, so the OP would have to go across the water(they're as rare as hen's teeth there too), so that might be a problem!

What the OP needs is a Toyota Avensis D-4D, but it must be the one introduced in 2003 or newer. The old one is based on the Carina E which came out in 1992, and it really shows it's age and is very noisy at speed. The D-4D is meant to be great engine too.
