Dublin seeks square on game board
    Tuesday, 22 January 2008 16:21
Voting has opened for the first ever world edition of the board game Monopoly.

The manufacturer of Monopoly, Hasbro, has set up a website where people can vote for cities from a prepared list or nominate a city to feature in the game.

Just 22 cities will make it on to the new game, which traditionally listed street names in each spot on the board.

AdvertisementDublin is the only Irish location to appear on the list and it stands alongside other major cities like New York, London and Tokyo.

Displaying photos of Trinity College, the Ha'penny bridge and the Spire of Dublin, the Monopoly website cites Dublin's 'world-famous' literary history and 'carnival style' St Patrick's Day Festival.

At 4pm, Dublin was ranked 6th on the leader board with 1.9% of the total vote.

London is in the lead with 3.2% followed by New York, Paris and Rome.

Polls close for the top 20 cities on 29 February 2008.

Two wildcard cities will also make the final board, which will be announced at a press conference in Time Square, New York.

Hasbro should be able to fix the vote and put Waterford on it instead of Jackeen land

I hate registering for anything myself but I went ahead and did it this time anyway. Dublin is number six in the leaderboard still.

Haha I love your Sven quote and response Xavi. Dunne is doing great this year. Really matured as a player. I'd give him the Ireland captaincy TBH

These voted monopoly things are stupid. They had one for England a while back.
Clearly London should have been number one, but because a lot of people, from a place noone has heard of, St Albans, banded together, that is now the number one place on the board.

Dublin got my vote. It had better end up as at least a red street. If we end up onr of the brown or light blue ones, I'll be very unhappy indeed.

I'm torn, Amsterdam a city that I love or Dublin just for the sake of voting Irish. :(

See Galway is number 6 in the wildcard league.

The problem here is, you'll guy it for €4 (bargain!!) and then the next time you come round, there'll be twenty times as many houses and a load of over-priced hotels that weren't there five minutes ago...

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Dublin ftw! (Enniscorthy for wildcard... ahem!!!) ;)

The browns are for the wildcards thankfully!

Ah, fixing internet votes - something we can all do as a nation.
However don't we usually screw these things up by pushing an unknown.
    Roosky, County Roscommon, IE
So that it ends up no1 on the world board....
    Isnt that the point :)

I think the higher up the leader board you get, the more "valuable" the city. The colours on the actual board indicate the colour the city will be...

I voted, come on everyone! you can vote every day, it would be good to see dublin on the board, but only in a high position, we don't want to be the crumlin of the world board!

    Move to the Dublin board!

    Move to the Dublin board!
    Why?

This is an effort for Ireland to get a place on the world monopoly board? More votes from people around the country give the ability for tiny Ireland to get on a big monopoly board with the big wigs. Tis is not just for Dublin, its for the Country to be seen on the world map alongside Paris, London, LA etc.

voted - dublin is now 7th

you have to keep going back to the website i think every 72 hours in order to keep your votes...

maybe someone should edit the thread title to include monopoly world edition

Is there a problem with the wildcard nomations at the moment?
Worked for me yesterday but today no matter what I type I get 'You must use the autocomplete to pick a city'. Yesterday when I typed my city another box opened with the city name and country but not today.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,367 ✭✭✭✭watna

Click twice on the box. It happened to me too, that it wouldn't autocomplete. it you double click on the box where you've typed the name in the list will appear.

it might not be. Roscommon won the vote for the All Ireland edition a couple of months ago. Largely due to a campaign on a local website to get people voting.

18th! Another 0.2% and we're out of it altogether!! (Might not be a bad thing: land on Dublin at the wrong time and it'll be two hours before you get off it again)

The city for new zealand is queenstown? Thats odd, i googled the place and it only has a population of about 10,000. Its just some resort town. Why not auckland or Christchurch?

21st now same percent as Zurich 19th and Shanghai 20th

That's Ireland off the board now. to be expected.

    Well done everyone. :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,789 ✭✭✭✭ScumLord

Even Galways gone of the brown streets. A push in the final 5 days could do it.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,367 ✭✭✭✭watna

I voted today and yesterday. It'd suck if Dublin finished just one spot off being on the boards.

    Get voting people!

Who is Joe Duffy? Seriously, I don't know. i believe he is a radio presenter but i don't listen to the radio (i hate all radio DJs). Do people just ring him to complain about stuff? Is it like after hours on the radio? /shudders
