Post-Graduate qualifications and PGDE points

    Hypothetical case:

A BA graduate in French and Psychology (or any combination of a teaching and non-teaching subject which I am assuming psychology to be for this example) goes on to do an MA in Psychology.

Then the person applies for the PGDE. Is the Master's taken into consideration when points are being calculated even though it is not related to teaching? I imagine the answer is 'no' since the PGDE handbook talks about 'relevant' post-graduate qualifications but - oddly for an otherwise remarkably comprehensive document - does not go any further than that to specify what precisly what is regards as 'relevant'.

Perhaps it is seen as obvious what 'relevant' may be in this case, but I am just wondering about this as in the example I gave here as they will consider the Psychology result in calculating the under-graduate degree overall average mark even though that is not 'relevant' in any other way either. But maybe this is an inconsistency that is the prerogative of them that makes the rules!

    Hi
When calculating the points for the PGDE, a masters is taken into account. I have a masters in sociology and it was taken into account when i did the PGDE in Maynooth last year. I think it's an extra 6 points.

Thanks for that. A Master's is indeed worth an extra 6 points.

Only thing is that Sociology is in fact a 'relevant' subject at second-level - for teaching CSPE. Was it one of your majors at under-graduate level, I presume it was?
