    Hi,

I am looking to spend my summer hols taking in a bit of snorkelling. Diving maybe, but preferably snorkelling. Where is good to go for this? I have been to the Algarve – not good for fishies, and Lanzarote which was poor also. However, neither of these was picked as a snorkelling spot!!!

Me & the gf are both 28. We can travel in June or August for two weeks. Budget about €1k per person. Europe or farther afield - all suggestions & ideas welcome.

    Cheers,
    Tom

The Red Sea is supposed to be one of the best diving sites in the world, and it's not too far away. Look for Sharm el Sheikh.

I'm going with Falcon in March.

I would be a bit nervous about Egypt - don't know what though.

Are the greek islands any good for snorkelling?

Go to the Red Sea, Egypt is amazing and the diving is the best after Great Barrier Reef, the water is so clear. When your're staying in those resorts on the red sea you could be anywhere in the world so if you're worried about being in Egypt per se, don't be. It's very safe though so you should really try and see some of the rest of the Sinai Penisula.

Where were you in Lanzerote? I was snorkelling there a few years ago and it was excellent

I'd second Egypt - best if you you can get a hotel with it's own private beach/reef as this tends to be in better condition with less dive traffic doing damage.

Alternatively Malta is excellent if you want an English-speaking destination. Malta has 30m+ visibility and is teeming with marine life.

I also highly recommend Egypt for snorkling and diving if your a bit braver. Some of the best reef's in the world, very high standard of hotel accommodation and a great way to experience another culture. you can go to cairo/pyramids etc for one day and fly back to your sharm el sheikh hotel that night!
Why would you feel nervous in egypt?

    Hi All,
Also interested in snorkeling but would be going on hols as two females...travelled to various locations in Egypt 10 years ago and the females of our group could NOT go out without male company. The one time three of us did it was an awful experience not to be repeated. Can anyone let me know whether the Red Sea differs from the rest of Egypt in this respect as would love to go snorkeling in the Red Sea.
    Thanks
    Marie

Check Croatia, with a rocky coastline on much of the Dalmatian coast
and isles the water visibility is very good.

    Might be worth asking here

Try Sardinia, great visibility on the north coast around Stintino. Some nice reefs and calm waters.
