Need to get sky dish realigned

    Hi,

I am having problems viewing some of the sky channels as they keep freezing. I rang Sky did a load of tests and checked signal strength etc, couldn't fix the problem and they reckoned I would need an engineer to realign the satellite dish as it might of been blown out of position by the high winds a month ago.

A sky engineer would cost about €100. Can anyone recommend a decent independent Sky provider who can realign my satellite, won't rip me off by saying I need a new box when I dont, and costs less than a €100 ?

    Any help much appreciated

dont discount the new box theory either. mine acted the same bout 12 months ago. had a guy out and he alligned the dish changed the LNB and left. Did turn out to be the box in the end. And no i was'nt a scam the box had seen its day.

The old Pace 2500 developes a tuner fault that looks like misaligned dish.
Other possibilities that can affect only some channels are water ingress, kink in coax or corroded coax cable and faulty LNB.

If the dish is accessible have someone watch the QUALITY bar and slight press the dish arm left, right, up, down for about 20seconds each way. If one direction improves it, then it's alignment. If all directions are worse, then it's not alignment.

Sorry ! I'm a typical Dub, forget that there are areas outside of Dublin. I live on the Northside.

you could always try realigning the dish yourself...you'll find loads of helpful sites on the net and its not really that hard to do. Buy a cheap signal metre in maplin, and try it.

If you don't manage fo fix it, you'll still be able to get someone out to fix it then.

On the other hand if the dish is particularily high on the house, or in an awkward place to get at, then you might be better off getting someone else out to fix it. Roofs can be very dangerous at this time of year with the weather.
