Early arthritis????

    Morning all,

Firstly, not sure if this is the right place to post, but couldn't find another forum, MOds feel free to move.

My hands are the problem. They are fine and dandy all of the time no aches or pains. Apart from when I use a hammer, which I do on a regular basis, being a landscaper, or a screw driver. Basically when ever my hand is holding something tight or is having pressure put on it. The dam things hurt like hell. Have to stop for a few minutes, until pain stops.

Also, when laying slabs for a while, I almost have to prise my fingers away from the hammer handle with my other hand as they are locked into the grasp position. (And no it’s not because I love my job THAT mach that I don't want to stop!)

Arthritis runs in the family and I just wondered if these are early signs??

Any thing I can be taking to avoid/put of, or could it be something else?

    Thanks,

    Pip

And I know, I need to go to docs………. :D

I would say go to the doctor. This is the key thing for you to do. If it should be arthritis it wont cure itself.

Also a number of supplements can help in some cases ie Chondritin, Glucosamine, many others. Various oils (eg Udo's oil, flax oil etc) may also help. Definitely go to the doctor as a first step and dont put it off.

Apip99 - I highly recommend you purchase a copy of "The pH Miracle" by Dr Robert O Young and start following an alkalising diet asap. The supplements Johnny Storm recommended are also good - I especially recommend Glucosamine and Udo's Choice.

My dad was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis 2 years ago and was told by his doctor that 1) it would never get better/there was no cure & 2) if he didn't take the medication the doctor recommended, the pain would get much worse.

My dad switched to Robert O Young's diet (I went on it with him to support him) and the painful symptoms disappeared . Before going onto to it, his fingers were in so much pain that he couldn't play music (he's an musician) and his shoulders were so sore, he couldn't sleep properly. Now he's able to function perfectly and is in total control of it.

Just thought I'd share that with you in case you get the same diagnosis from your doctor as my dad's doctor got from his.

Hope that helps - if you need any more info, pm me if you like.

May not even be arthritis. If it is there are many types, e.g. rheumatoid, osteoarthritis, psoriatic arthritis, reactive arthritis, etc. all of which may be managed differently. So need to get a diagnosis first. Go to a doctor or physiotherapist. Once you have a diagnosis you can weigh up treatment options.

    Howaya OP.

I have something the same, I've had it for years. I'm also a bit of a musician, and I find myself peeling my fingers off the clarinet, drum sticks or even barbells (not the most pleasant after a few deadlifts!... And no, the barbells aren't musical:D)

I've found that warming up and stretching my whole body in the morning does wonders for it - I dont know why, maybe getting the blood flowing early sorts me out for the day or something. Not very scientific, but I'm no physio!

On the main forum page (where it lists all the threads) hit the big button marked New Thread near the top of the page.
