    Hi,
Could anyone recommend a insurance company that would insure 28 yr old provisional licence,
1 years no claims bonus on audi tt 1.8. I have been refused by quinn and tesco not even a quote.
I woud wait till i get my full licence fingers crossed this year. But i am importing from the uk
and with the vrt going up in regard to audi tt's(high co2) in july. I would like to buy one now.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated

    cheers.

    Eoghan

Very High to start on, risky option. Really would have gotten a quote on something 1.2 1.4 1.6. Why dont you get a lower size Golf. If not just keep shopping. Hibernian, FBD maybe..

Have you ever sat the driving test?

OP, i'm currently on a provisional and should be sitting the test in a few weeks. I'm 25, 1 years NCB and have a Golf 1.4 and i'm currently with Quinn. I'm thinking of upgrading soon, more than likely to a new fsi 1.4, 1.6 or 1.9tdi. I rang Quinn last week on renewing my current insurance, and mentioned that I may be getting an Audi A3 1.6 in the next week or so. Online didn't quote me, and neither did he (something about not being able to quote provisionals over 1.4). He did however mention that if I just go and buy the car, ring immediately and he/they will pretty much insure you anyway. Now that was for an Audi 1.6fsi 115hp, they may have a slightly different attitude towards the TT. May be worth a try though.

ring insure.ie - they'll shop around and find the best quote / find a place that will insure you. I went through them for provisional (granted I'm a lady driver and was a VW Polo - but still), they got me with Royal Sun& Alliance. My dad went through insure.ie and got with Mike Murphy insurance.
No harm giving them a shot

You could buy a €200 banger with NCT and insure it. After a week you could switch. I've posted this before but you could then ring them up and say 'I've bought it and I want to transer to it'. The downside of course is that ou have to put up with whatever they quote.

Maybe you should pass your driving license.

Yeah, but he didn't mention what they'd charge! No good buying the car and then finding out that insurance will cost you 3 grand or something mad like that.

Actually I asked him what should I expect if I purchase the A3 while still on a provisional. He said annual premium should be approx €400 more than what I was on (jumping from a 1.4 75hp to a 1.4 fsi 115hp) which is fair enough I guess, and then when I got my full licence it would pretty much come to exactly what I am paying now for my 1.4 on a provo. Got as much info out of him as possible. :)

As i mentioned earlier though, it will probably be much different with the TT, but it would be a good idea for the OP to ring and get similar info anyway.

You have no licence to drive in England and if caught they should throw the book at you.

By law you have to get insurance. Get a written refusal from 3 companies and the 1st has to quote you. But they don't have to be reasonable.

You'd be better off passing your test and getting the car after that, get a letter from work saying you need the licence and can do a short notice test.
Or bring the car in register it and leave it sitting in your drive till you pass your test.

Best advice on here. I would be very surprised if anyone would insure an unlicensed male in a 180BHP car. Driving it home from the UK isn't an option - you'll need to get it imported or bring a friend to drive it back for you. Then store it until you're able to drive it.

Don't even think of driving in the UK on your provisional. It is completely worthless there. That includes Northern Ireland too.

Quinn are thieves! Now, I'm in a different situation, as I've a full licence over 7 years, BUT, in 2006 I had a 05 Petrol 1.6 Astra, insured, with Quinn for €2100. Not bad I thought, I was 24 with 3 years NCB on a new car worth 26k... That September, 5 months before my renewal (in Feb 07), I upgraded to a 2.0 Turbo Astra OPC. Quinn, at first wouldn't quote me, even though I was a customer and had bought the new car. EVENTUALLY, they told me that they wanted another €2500 to cover me until my renewal. In total, my insurance would have cost over 4 grand, and I only would have had 5 months in the new car....

I cancelled the policy there and then, called Mike Murphy Insurance (insure.ie) and they insured me, with Hibernian for €1900 Fully Comp.... Added my girlfriend on and it came down to €1560 (work that out!?)

This year I'm paying €929 Fully Comp. Shop around.... although as people are saying, you're better off staying with something smaller until you have the pink slip of paper. It does make a big difference....

I'd recommend Mike Murphy in a heartbeat.... Other than that, try a few Brokers.... Somehow I always get my insurance cheaper with a middle-man, than I do directly!

BTW..... a TT will look sh!t with "L" Plates on it :D

There is a reason the OP is having problems with insuring the TT and the reason is obvious - No driving experience, a provisional licence learner.

In my opinion a provisional licence holder should not be insured in a car with more then 75bhp full stop. I know you can do as much damage in a 1.4 Golf compared to a GTi Golf but an accident is alot more likely with GTi in the hands of an unexperienced driver.

A NCB should have no relevance when driving on a learners licence. I really think to encourage people to do the test and penalise those who fail there shouldn't be credit given for no claims in the learning period.

This crap of insuring a Fiesta on a provisional and ringing up 3 months in to transfer insurance because you've bought a Celica should also be outlawed. I have seen this done first hand and its absolute madness.

Another thing thats on my mind at the minute is why when I park my car as far away from another as possible in a near empty part of a car park do I always without fail return to find a car parked nearly on top of my car. This make my blood boil.
