NATS Type 3?

Hope someone can help here, PS3 kept getting disconnected from the wireless connection so done a wireless connection test, everything ok except that it said my NATS (?) was type 3 and with this setting I could have some problems with online chat and connectivity? Anyone else have this problem or know how to solve it?…

There are 3 types of NAT used by the PS3.
Nat Type 1 is when you PS3 is directly connected to the internet, no firewall no security etc...

Nat type 2 is when you either have a PS3 in what they call a DMZ or you have port forwarded the releveant ports to your PS3. Both will require you to have the PS3 with a static IP address on your internal network.

Nat type 3 is when nothing is port forwarded.

There are loads of guides for port forwarding, but the easiest is to find out if your home router has the ability to setup a dmz..

Thanks ppl. I'm not very techie but will give it a go, nothing more annoying than not being able to join online rooms cos of router restrictions...

(ps, because this seems to quite a common problem would it be an idea to make a sticky of gilberto eire's earlier walkthrough/solution)
