Does anyone know how to reset the service indicator on an E39 520i?

I've got a '97 BMW 520i which is due an oil service. Does anyone know how to go about resetting the service indicator on these? I know on my wife's car there's just a sequence with the ignition & trip computer reset button that needs to be gone through to reset it, but I've never had to do it on this car.
    Any help apreciated.

I think you need a special tool for the bmw's - vw's are done they way you described.

I bought a reset tool off eBay three years ago for my E36 but it was advertised at the time as doing all BMWs from 1989-2001. Made by Draper and it was only a fiver I think. Simplest job ever, 30 seconds and oil and service lights are reset. If you are anywhere near Dundalk you are welcome to try it out :-)

GSF in Finglas & on the Nangor road sell them. Im looking at my new purchase of this now, its made by Draper, cost me 20 euro, its called a "Service key for BMW". It does all BMW's.

It can be done with a paper clip but for the sake of €20, I would pick up the reset tool.
Where are you based? I have one if you want me to do it for you

Thnx for all the help. I've to pick up a few pieces in GSF next week so I might as well pick one up there while I'm at it. The chances are it's something I'll use again.
