    hi

a mate of mine is looking to start playing electro-acoustic guitar.he is a beginner and will be starting lessons in the summer but wants to buy a guitar in the meantime cos he cant wait to get started.

he was thinking something along the line of a starter pack such as this http://waltons.ie/waltonsshop/product_info.php?cPath=60_260&products_id=10892/

anyone got any recommendations at all?

    thanks

Okay, well first off i wouldn't go buying it in waltons, and secondly i wouldn't be so sure an electro acoustic is the way to go. If it were me i would rather buy a plain acoustic for €300 which would be better quality and easier to play than the electro acoustic for the same money. I some how doubt your friend actually needs an electro acoustic. I would go with something like this. I hear they're supposed to be great for the money yamaha

well i think my mates pretty keen on the electro acoustic.

he wants to have an acoustic that can hook up to an amp to play electric aswell

What do you mean by playing "electric" on it, i've heard so many people that go the electro acoustic route because they think they can play the likes of hendrix on it just because it's got a preamp. Anyway, i would buy it on thomann or music store rather than the likes of waltons.

Well, it's designed to be the sound of an acoustic guitar that can be amplified. As in, it's that same acoustic tone but through a PA for a larger venue.

You could add some subtle effects like reverb but if you throw in a distortion pedal, expect a lot of feedback.

You won't get an "electric" sound, it'll be the sound of an acoustic guitar but louder. If you want an 'electric' sound, you'll need an electric guitar and a decent amp. Actually, it's easier to emulate an acoustic guitar on an electric guitar than vice versa.

If you're still going for the electro-acoustic, I'll second the Yamaha recommendation. Played one a few weeks back and it was really nice.
