    Folks,

Any truth in the rumours of a merger between Phoenix & CYM ?

The two clubs are in negotiations, and the rumour that has been floating around cricket circles is that they may merge the first teams, but below that play as separate clubs.

However, the club secretary of Phoenix made a statement on the Cricket Europe forum that, while negotiations are underway no decisions have yet been made.

Just checked the CE forum - hadn't look at it for a while as it's usually just full of folk in the North just having cheap shots at each other.

Not sure how they could merge their 1s and keep separate junior sections but I guess it's wait & see.

From what I saw last year CY had about 2 teams with quite a few from their 1s also playing on their 2s and quite a few from their 2s also playing on their 3s. I thought the starring system was supposed to prevent that but I guess if it comes to a club dropping a team out of the league the LCU may make an exception to some of the starring rules

If memory serves me correctly, Phoenix had trouble fulfilling some of their fixtures in Senior II last season and some of the other junior leagues.
