Is this possible (new Mac Pro media centre)

    Hi,

    Is this possible?

I'm planning to buy a '08 Mac Pro as a home office upgrade to my old G4.

    Spec: Two 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon, 2GB (2x1GB), NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT 512MB GDDR3.

If I buy a HD LCD TV, can I connect the Mac Pro to the TV and use the Mac as a DVD (in the future BlueRay) player?

Advancing from that, if I buy the Elgato EyeTV Hybrid, can I record from my NTL digital box to the Mac and then 'push' it back out to the LCD TV?

Can I access all the channels on NTL Digital (as in Paramount, etc.)? Can I watch one channel and record another? Can I watch recorded TV and record at the same time?

Is the Mac up to being used as a computer, TV recorder and TV broadcaster all at the same time?

    Any help appreciated.

    Regards,

    G.

So the machine would be capable of that?
can ntl record and watch another show at the same time
I don't know, hence the question
    does it have blueray capability?
    Presumably in the future....

    Yes

I believe so yes, but I also believe that the DTT tuner is for free-to-air digital services. Not scrambled cable services. In essence you’re just recording the analogue signal pumped out by your digibox with the hybrid.
Can I access all the channels on NTL Digital (as in Paramount, etc.)? Can I watch one channel and record another? Can I watch recorded TV and record at the same time?
Yes, you just change channel on your digibox. No, this requires multiple tuners – and in the case of digital cable, multiple cable boxes. Yes, to the final question I believe.

    Absolutely
