    Hi,

A very old and good friend of my dads is in hospital down the country and has MRSA. He is quite bad and the prognosis does not look good so my dad is heading down to visit him. problem is I know that MRSA is very dangerous if it gets into an open wound. Dad has excema on his scalp and leg and although he knows he shouldnt he often scratches at it and it bleeds a bit so he has some scabs on his leg.

Im really worried about him going in to see this man and was wondering whats the best thing to do. Should I get him to bandage his leg beforehand? Rubbing antiseptic/alcohol wipes? Or should I get him a sanitation spray like the first defense

    any advice very much appreciated

MRSA is generally only harmful to people who are already weak or have immune systems that are not 'up to scratch' (such as the very young or very old). That's why you only hear about people dying of it in hospital. If your dad is a generally healthy individual, then he has little to be worried about.

I encountered MRSA in the lab at college one day but it posed no threat to the class because none of us were ill.
