    Hello

Apologies if this is in the wrong forum. I felt this was the best place for it.

I'm going to be interviewing (by e-mail) the owner of an online sex shop.

I have made a list of about 10 questions, but I'm running out of ideas :o

Can you think of anything you'd like to ask the owner of a sex shop?

    Any questions appreciated.

This is what I have so far...
    • Why did you choose to set up an adult store?
    • Have you had any negative reactions from family and friends?
    • Are adult stores treated the same as non-adult stores by the Irish government?
    • What's your most popular product?
    • Describe what a fleshlight is.
    • Could you tell us, roughly, what percentage of your customers are male/female?
    • What did you think of the negatve reaction Ann Summers received when it opened on O'Connell Street?
    • Has anyone ever tried to return a used vibrator?
    • Have you been surprised by any of your bestsellers?
    • Why don't you sell pornography?

    Thanks!

You shouldn't interview people by email, leaves no room for follow up questions and certain questions can be ignored. Ring the person.

He wants to do it by e-mail, so no choice...

Basically I'm going to send the questions, and then send other questions to drill down on some of his answers.

So at the moment I'm just getting a group of general questions together.

    Thanks for the reply.

If he's renting the premises, did he tell the landlord what kind of retail outlet he was starting?
(I have heard this is a problem sometimes.)

What do the neighbours (residential or commercial) think about his shop?
    (Ditto)

    Age profile of customers?
(was in Tower records yesterday and saw a classic "dirty old man" leafing through the lad mags.)

Thanks Dyflin. It's an online shop though, sorry...

Why are most sex toys so cheap and flimsy? Are they bought to be used or as a joke?

Why are adult DVDs so expensive?

Has the internet and easy availability of DVDs for 'free' affected your sales?

Why are most Irish shops so sleazy and dark?

Have you ever visited 'Good Vibrations' in San Francisco? Do you think a shop designed like that would work in Ireland?

Do you have an online shop? Do you think it would be a profitable business in Ireland?

Ah, Jaysus, let's go for the tougher ones:

(I'm a liberal, in case anybody is wondering, just producing a more interesting line of questioning ...)

What do you say to people who say what you're doing is corrupting, and morally wrong?

Do you think there is a link between increased availability of sexual material and sex crime? Are we becoming oversexualised?

Do you sell mostly to w*ankers or couples?

Do your staff feel endangered, working with clientele who use these products?

Is there anything you won't stock?

(If it was a RL store: how much damage have you done to property prices in the area you're based?)

Try those for a laff ...

I'm going to be sending this off tonight - any final ideas?

    Cheers

Well, you could ask if any punter has ever asked him for child pornography.

Meant to post this yesterday but forgot... might be too late but:

You could ask him how, as an online outlet, he verifies the age of his customers (in the context of the availability of 3V "temporary" Visa cards that are designed specifically with under-18s in mind).

If it's not too late to make a suggestion, why not ask does he tell the truth when asked what he does for a living and what reaction is this met with?
