So they don't come with the Vista DVD? Surely they have to include this since I paid for the OS in the cost of the laptop. Its my copy of Vista not Sony's.

    Seems a bit crazy.

Basically, neither you OR Sony own the Operating System. It still belongs to Microsoft as I think it states in the EULA. You are just paying for the use of it on the computer you have purchased.

Yes but in that I have the right to reinstall it. That is going to be difficult without the disc.

There are people who have gotten the os disk by ringing them and telling them that the windows install is fooked and they have to do a format. I don't know if it's worked for a sony though and you would only be able to do it after you have bought the laptop. Why companies can't through a windows cd in with a computer is beyond me. It can't cost that much.

I guess I'll talk to them in the shop about it before I purchase. Act shocked and appalled about the lack of a Vista disc in the box.

    Thanks for the replies everyone.
