Eye protection on game sites

I know this was mentioned a while back on one of the HRTA threads, but I've lost track of the discussion.

Can anyone tell me what the current standing on face/eye protection is at the sites running?

I currently play with a pair of Guarder C3 glasses - they've stood by me well in all sorts of close quarter and open environments. Can I play with these or will I be made wear a face mask?

    As per HRTA.ie Rules
    2. Eye protection must set securely against the face. No gaps that a 6mm pellet could pass through may be present.

So you better make sure there is no gap otherwise you cant use em.

Sealed eye protection and a good bushy beard are all you need :D

on the hrta website it says you must use full face protection, has this changed?

Few times ive been at least half the people there, me included, dont wear FF.
Its very restricting...unless you spend a small fortune on those Pball masks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,397 ✭✭✭Evolute

No you do not have to wear a full face mask that is still on the website from the old indoor CQB H.R.T.A. As Dr. Pepper said the eye protection you wear should have no gaps big enough for a 6mm bb to enter.

not to take the original question off topic, but for those who dont like to use full face masks (myself included) do you use anything as an alternative to protect your mouth, ever since loosing a tooth ive been paranoid about taking another bb in the mouth but i absolutly hate full masks. people use all kinds from scarfs to biker type strechy under masks, balaclavas etc. so far i always find that whatever i use causes my guarders to fog up, anti fog eases this somewhat but does anyone have a magic solution to this ?

I was thinking of getting a set of gum shields. Like rugby ones. Allthough i dont know how comfy they are and id probably end up chokeing on them :)

what about those neoprene half face masks, they cover your lower face up t about your nose I think Airsofteire.com has them

They work great with a decent pair of shooting glasses. Trouble is they suck if you have long hair.

hehehe yeah i saw them before a little to "gimp" looking for my liking! ;)

    i found something similar here

    http://www.bandero.co.uk/designs.htm

i bought the camo design one a while back, they are pretty good , but i find on warm days it can be a little hard to breath after a while and they still cause your glasses to fog up as they come up onto your nose right under your glasses

I have a neoprene face mash but take note that neoprene isnt very pourous even though the masks have holes in them and it can get difficult to breath with them on if you've been running or something. Ive got to the stage where i dont even bother with it anymore., BBs dont really hurt that badly anyway,
oh and motorcycle shops sell neoprene face masks usually around a fiver.,

I'm tempted to try a bandana after using the face mask at the weekend it just wasn't comfortable at all and when I stuck it over my nose it fogged my glasses :(

imo, having tried gun shields I found them a bit of a waste - unless you dont want to speak (or dont mind sounding like you have someone else's teeth in your mouth) - and like you said - easy to choke on! :)

However, may be good for a sniper not running about and being quiet...

You'd be surprised how much snipers run at the start of the game :p:p

neil you can have my neoprene one if ya like. i didnt know you were using full face now. did ya get the tooth fixed yet?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,984 ✭✭✭NakedDex

I use a neoprene mask by Lowe Alpine that has a mouth mesh for breathing, a pair of Uvex goggles (they probably look silly but you try getting something that works with glasses for a decent price). I used to use a gumshield if I was playing CQB with that get up too just to prevent too much damage from a hit to the mouth/teeth

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,323 ✭✭✭Spitfire666

I found that the neopreane masks where a bit crap as they are tight to the skin so don't offer a whole lot of protection. I wear goggles mostly on there own

there's been multible posted solutions on this and most dont work except good old spit ,it works for diving masks ,my face mask fogs up in the rain exept when i rub spit on to the lens,

whats wrong with bandanas. i use a camofluaged one so im safe and hidden but they dont work well with glasses tey make them fog up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,258 ✭✭✭Cheeky monkey

If you just cover your mouth you they shouldnt fog your glasses

has anyone tried a gas mask, i have a avon s10 on the way, gonna strap it and get shot in the face, might be a bit warm though

I have a rather cool looking respirator mask that looks very intimidating but is very comfortable and doesn't fog. It's great. Until you start running and realise the air seal is only large enough for standard pace breathing.

pants, was thinking about pulling out the filter and see whats happens

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,984 ✭✭✭NakedDex

The filter makes things worse. It's viable to open the filter and remove the charcoal pack and filter pads and papers. That will help. Try it though. Masks vary wildly depending on application, yours may have larger vent seals than mine. The only way to know is put it on and go for a run.

If you do depack the filter, you can leave the gauze in place. That can be hard to replace.

Treadmill? Hell even around the garden would do. Or even go for a quick sprint just to get your breathing up to full pace then pull the mask on and see how you fair.

yeah i know but still think it would be funny to see though

The eye-glasses part of the mask are not BB safe.
So unless you plan on wearing a set of shooting glasses underneath it, a gasmask should not be allowed on any site.

EDIT: upon further research the S10 lenses seem to be fairly durable, apparently being able to withstand a shotgun blast from ten feet away.

I know one of the Madrai wears a Gas mask regularly, not sure which one though.

Fiach does and its a repirator not a gas mask, slightly different thing.

It does look nifty with the dark shooting glasses though it makes him sound like Darth Vaders dad ...

    ... tradeoffs I guess.

No but they're on my list. I think Guarder make them.

I don't use it anymore, haven't in a long while actually. It was really comfortable as it was made out of silicone not rubber. The muffled voice was what turned me away from it in the end.

Are you allowed a gas mask on site? I have an one and just to test it out i unloaded a full mag at it,at nearly point blank range & not even a scratch on it,so would be acceptable during a skirmish????

Might have been before you shot it :D once protective equipment (motorcycle helmets, safety glasses etc) takes a knock its supposed to be replaced.

Is it a full face mask or just the respirator part?

thats all high impact stuff though, ive had crashes on bikes and still have the helmet intact, its only advised to be inspected rather than actually replaced.,

I dunno if I came off my bike I'd definitely be replacing my helmet although I might take a chance with the rest of my gear.

Of course to come off my bike I'd actually have to ride the thing in the first place :D
