Trackday for Classic Owners

Hi all. Were organising a classic mini trackday on the 4th of April in Mondello Park. We ran one last year and it was fantastic fun! In an effort to make things cheaper for everyone and to allow us to run a couple more this year, we are offering limited places for people with classic cars who want to join us.

We will be splitting the cars into seperate groups to acommodate the older cars and less experienced drivers, so if you just want to tootle around and see how your car performs on a track, thats absolutely fine. Another group will be for the more experienced/faster cars (which included some highly modifed minis and mini trackcars).

It will be an afternoon session. The date is booked for Friday April 4th

PRICE: €110.00 for car & driver, second driver €20.00, passenger free.
All drivers must be over 18 years, hold full licence & are required to produce it at signin. No licence, no run. Payment in advance, no refunds, but if you are unable to participate you can sell on your place on. I cannot take bookings on a conditional basis, ie subject to my car being ready.

If anyone is interested in this, PM me.

    maxi

Great stuff, this will be worth going just to watch! Is it restricted to Minis or can any classic join in the fun...... Just had a look at the stock list and I haven't got a Mini in the collection at the mo!!

No its not restriced to minis dude. Its primarily a mini trackday, but with a seperate group of classics to keep the costs down. So far a couple of lads on Octane have expressed an interest, Alfa GTV's, Sprints, Suds, RS2000 and a couple of more 'modern classics'.

It would be so good to get a regular classic trackday going, open to all marques and not just classic racers that you sometimes see at the regular days.

I would love to go down and watch for the craic. I would actually take my 230SL onto the track, they were a competitive car in their day, but maybe next year.

Is it strictly 100% classics only? I want to come along in my 944 but my mate just collected a 08 Golf GTi and wants in on the fun! Any room for a 'modern' classic? ;)

    Are there still places left?

    Good stuff, 1275gt!

Could you explain what a track day like that is all about? How does it work?

Ok guys, Eamonn who is the chief organiser, is a member of the Historic Motor Racing Association and has raced minis for years. He organised a hugely successful trackday last year comprising of classic minis only with a couple of other members of the club bringing along similarly classed non-minis for a go around mondello. (we had a couple of cappucinos, a couple of 80's 3 Series beemers)

So we thought, why not invite some other classics along. Basically what the day is, is an opportunity to test the performance of yourself and your classic, this doesnt mean tearing lumps off your wheels at every corner, it simply gives the owner the opportunity to have a bit of fun in a safe controlled environment. The guys in mondello were absolutely brilliant the last time, everyone has to sit through a drivers briefing explaining the track and the track conditions.

Theres is absolutely no messing tolerated, and we try to group the cars into suitable categorys, so if your a complete trackday novice (or your car has a top speed of 15mph), thats not a problem. Also, if you fancy yourself as a bit of a paddy hopkirk, there's an experienced group with some highly modified minis and a couple of historic race cars too.

It's an afternoon track session on the National Circuit, drivers briefing is usually just after lunch. Each driver must have their own helmet (theres usually plenty of spares) and cars are subject to scrutineering. (ie if your cars leaking oil, leave it at home)

In terms of actual tracktime, we sent groups out every 15minutes, so you'll get plenty of time out on track. Just make sure to fill up with petrol before you arrive in mondello.

If anyone has anymmore questions, just post em up and i'll see if I can answer them.

One last thing, it looks like theres going to be limited places so its purely on a first come first served basis!

    Hi There

I picked up this thread from Irish Performance Cars and would like to apply to attend the Trackday. I have a 1998 Rover 218 VVC Coupe and my friend owns a 1999 Alfa GTV. I usually drive at Kirkistown on the Trackskills days but we would like to try out Mondello.

Sorry man, dont quite qualify as classics (yet) :o. Wouldnt be very fair on the old cars having to get out of the way every time one of the newer faster machines tear by. Anyway It looks like we've got a full house already.

For anyone on the thread whos sent payment, please let me know by PM.

    Cheers Maxi
