What are the differences between both of these styles and I know there is a bjj club in cork, is there a ju-jitsu or aikido club in cork

bjj is a sport, so there is none of the formality's of the more traditional jujitsu.
also bjj is a lot more on the ground that jujitsu.
    bjj is trained properly:)...

judo as an alternative to jujitsu might be a good choice if you like the throws n stuff.
    also trained properly:)

trained against a fully resistant opponent, rather than (in my exp. of trad. jujitsu) going through the motions.
but hey, i cant speak for every trad. jujitsu club, but...:)

i suppose the best thing is to try both and see what suits you and what you like

the proper training point is pretty vital

if someone trains movements against a passive opponent then their movements will be passive

ie. a waste of shaggin time

Earlier thread you mentioned height / weight , BJJ would be more suitable , lots more groundwork, and as stated more structured towards grappling, body movement etc ...

Each system has its merits! I have trained in traditional Jujitsu for 5 years. we have had various BJJ and MMA practioners visit our dojo and there is no doubt that there ground work is superb but do you want to have a fight on the ground in a self defense situation?
    or
React, block the strike and counter and walk away.
rolling around in beer and s...on a pub floor!

Comparing sports to Martial Arts is not a fair comparision.

will you be given a choice?

the op asked the difference so a comparison was inevitable.
fair or not, rubbish training methods speak for themselves.

Comparing sports to Martial Arts is not a fair comparision.

BJJ is a martial art, just like loads of other sport activities, thai boxing, tkd, judo etc.. the difference is there all trained against resisting opponents and tested in a sporting enviroment against someone who wants to beat you. better than training for fighting pre arranged moves.

Rush Boxing club and Rush Martial Arts head coach.

    timetogetfit,

where do you live in cork?

there is an aikido club in cork and some ninja/ju jutsu classes.

i teach a mixed style and am soon to be teaching the syllabus of kyushomushin ju jutsu (traditional based) through renshi noel mc hugh.

pm me if you want more details on anything here. or just to let me know where you live and i'll try to help you out ;)
