travelling to Argentina in March and looking for a short itinerary between buenos aires and perito moreno. We would need to leave buenos aires on a tuesday, fly to el calafate, spend 2 nights there in the glacier and then i'm looking for a stopover between el calafate and buenos aires for another 2 nights. Are there must sees in that region where we could spend a couple of days?

    There are a few options:

Bariloche in the Lake Region is probably your best. Beautiful scenery, great food and it's a nice town.

Ushuaia is another option. It's far away (southern most city in the world) but well worth it.

Puerto Madyrn is good as well. The highlight here is seeing the whales and other animal life on Peninsula Valdes. You can do a day tour to it. You can also do a day tour to a Penguin reserve not far from. Just thinking, it might be out of season for the whales, best to check that out first. ;)

I reckon these are your best options.

I spent some time in Bariloche - you can do water sports in the summer and skiing in winter. It is a quaint town and the town square is modelled on a swiss town with log cabins etc. They have St. Bernard dogs everywhere which are a tourist attraction - you have to pay to get a photo of them.

I went out into a tourist place in the national park but tbh it reminded me of Glendalough. Also if you are travelling solo its very hard to do organised activities; they really want groups or couples but maybe you might meet a likeminded person in a hostel who would partner up with you.

I didn't go to Puerto Madyrn but it might be a better option.

The biggest problem is getting connecting buses or planes. It's not as easy as you may think. I went to Mendoza as well and it can be a case of going back to BA to get somewhere else.
