I have a standard Pace Sky box and a Philips DVD recorder when I connect as per DVD manual the sky picture goes green! When I connect as per Sky it does not work at all can anyone help?
DVD setup. Sky to DVD then DVD to TV = Green pictures
Sky setup. Sky to TV and Sky to DVD then DVD to TV = nothing from DVD
All are scart connections a I have no aerial or aerial connection only Sky.

On another point I have heard of a device that can switch on your DVDR when you set autoview. Has anyone heard of such a thing and where do I get it? Thanks in advance,

If you are getting a colour cast on your tv when you loop the SCART signal through the DVDR, then you have a faulty SCART cable (or connector). Check that all the pins are straight in the connectors and that you haven't accidentally flattened one or two. My Sony DVDR is connected to the TV SCART socket on the SKY box and the TV is connected to the DVDR. Using the RGB setting in the SKY menu I get good quality signal for recording.

Have tried scart leads but they work fine with sky box on its own and sony dvd player with no colour cast but will check again to be sure. What is RGB setting on sky and where do I find it?

Are there not two scart outlets at the back of the sky box. One scart to tv and one to dvd done the trick for me.

There are two scarts on the sky box one to tv which is working fine as long as I leave it in the tv as soon as i put it through the DVDR as instructed by the philips manual and then connect the dvdr to the tv i get sky in green only which i cannot correct on the video menu on the tv. when i connect the dvdr to sky box as instructed by sky and also to the tv i have no input to the tv from the dvd for some reason!

A DVDR is just a modern VCR so should be connected in exactly the same way.

    1. A scart lead to the TV from the Sky digibox's 'TV' scart socket;
    2. A scart lead to the DVDR from the Sky digibox's 'VCR' scart socket.

i.e. TWO scart cables, NOT three.

There is no need to separately connect the DVDR to the TV because it'll loop through the Sky digibox.

Although you can use the VCR socket on the SKY as the connection to the DVDR, it only supports composite video, which is lower quality than the RGB signal available at the SKY TV socket. My own arrangement uses a loop through the DVDR which provides an RGB signal to the television from the SKY box or from DVDs.

Original poster (murpheeie) - If you have eliminated the SCART cables as the source of your problem, then it's likely that the DVDR is faulty. A colour cast on the tv screen means that one or other of the colour signals is missing. Go into the "Services" menu on your SKY box, option 4 (System setup), option 1 (video settings). Ensure SCART control is set ON. Try SCART video output at PAL (this is composite video) and RGB (higher quality) settings. Don't forget to SAVE your settings. If you can't get the DVDR to work this way, then return it!;)

ps - make sure the TV, DVD and SKY box are all set to process the signal in the same way - RGB or Composite/PAL. Usually TVs will switch automatically to handle composite or RGB properly, but you never know!

Thanks very much guys for all the help. I was ready to give up and take it back last night when in the process of disconnecting I hit upon the problem. I was using the third scart lead to connect the DVDR to the TV and the TV was auto connecting to that scart as my main source when I powered up the DVDR. I removed this lead like advised by Heinz and fat tony and presto full colour sky and full colour dvd playback. Thanks again for the help this is my first call from now on for tech problems!
Also researched the device to record automatically from Sky is called a Phantom PVR and available from Maplin in the UK on the following link http://www.maplin.co.uk/Search.aspx?criteria=pvr&MinPrice=20&MaxPrice=50&doy=17m1&SD=false

However the cheap (€99) Dunnes Beond/Plustron only records composite SCART, though has RGB playback. I have a 4 way rotary switch with VHS, DVD(r), Sky & FTA sat on the TV RGB in and the Beond feed from the Sky VCR out.

Often if a TV has two scarts, both do composite, but only one does RGB.
