wireless on laptop

    hi guys,

    recently moved into a new house....the house has wireless broadband and ive connected it up using the network key and it wont work.

    at the moment im using the network cable as this is the only way i have of getting access to the internet.....

    any ideas?

    I know it may sound silly but have u switched the wireless on, on your computer!!

    What router is it? If Eircom go to 192.168.1.254 and check the security settings in the wireless section. Double check your password.

    Our wireless connection stopped working after a power cut, I rang eircom and they sent us a new modem. It works fine now.

    As mentioned above, go to the routers config page on 192.168.1.254 while connected to the router by the ethernet cable. If it's the standard netopia one from eircom you should see a wireless section in the menu on the left. Click on that and copy the wep / wpa key and then browse for available wireless networks. Choose the option to connect and you should be prompted for a key which you can paste in then.

    thing is its connected already - it comes up when the laptop is switched on to say its connected but without the cable it wont work.

    its NTL broadband

    If it is connecting but you can't access the internet then it may be your tcp/ip settings. They would need to be set to dhcp. If it's not that then it may be one of many things in the router, like mac address filtering, a limit on the dhcp table etc.
