When I was a young mucker, I used to love going up to the second floor of the old megastore and try and muster up the balls to look at the porn vids. I'd always bottle it and vear to the wrestling ones.....

Well there goes my last chance of getting into a virgin.

    Sorry, I'll go now...

God what a bad idea, cant see this rebranding making much buisness sense, virgin was a well known liked name. There just spending money changing everything and having people not like the brand name.

They might want to make sure all their branch managers are aware, at Xmas they still had signs up in Kilkenny for the Virgin Megastore that was "coming soon". Though I guess if they'd said "Zavvi megastore coming soon" people would've simply thought "wtf?", whereas if they wait until it's been open a while at least people might come to associate the two names more easily.

    intersting thread.

Yeah, if you go into the Virgin megastore in Kilkenny, even since it opened, all the price labels on the stuff say "Zavvi".

They'd get more customers if they called it Mergin' Vaginastore:D

It's a new hip name to appeal to the kids.

nope, its a new hip name because branson sold it to the management company that had been running it and the name had to be legally changed and the stores completely rebranded as part of the deal.

I worked in the one in Cork when I was 19. We had to wear black t-shirts and a badge which was just the logo (red circle with "Virgin" in white). Loads of sleazy middle-aged and auld fellas would constantly chuckle "heh heh, bet you're not!" to us. I got disciplined once for asking one of them "how would you like a man of your age to speak to your daughter like that?"

You would have expected that from teenagers not older men.

But still you should not have been disciplined for that. As i bet if them men had daughters your age and someone spoke to them like that, they would have been up in arms.

*unless they were them dirty old men types.

Sounds familiar, I could guess at who disciplined you too. I worked in the Cork store once upon a time, so I am going with either M or A that sided with the customer.

:D Oh the "M" and "A" I knew were lovely! No, it was L.

I'd be willing to bet those "dirty old men" types would still be up in arms if their daughters were spoken to like that!

My post in the North East http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=54863016&postcount=184
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zavvi
During the early to mid 2000s Virgin Group decided to sell off most of its Virgin Megastores to various companies, including Related Companies and the Lagardere Group. The UK and Ireland arm of Virgin Megastores was bought out by members of the management, led by managing director Simon Douglas and finance director Steve Peckham, for an undisclosed sum
Virgin Megastores Ireland will change to 'zavvi Ireland' in January 2008.

Found out a while back, Was watching sky and I was thinking Zazzi ads are the same as Virgin then did a google search and found out what happened.

Damn it, I was hoping they were going to change it to something like Whore-Store® instead. Missed opportunity if you ask me.

This was posted on a site a while back bout the whole changeover funny stuff>>> http://www.popjustice.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=1999&Itemid=206

A few weeks later the folks behind the website were sent a zavvi gift card from the owners and had a much nicer view of the whole debacle! http://www.popjustice.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=2027&Itemid=206

Virgin in Belfast has been Zavvi for a good while - since maybe Halloween I'd say. I'm an HMV man though.

I'd noticed all the ones I'd come across in other places around the UK had been rebranded early last year, they just seem to be taking a lot longer to bother with them over here. They have half done the one in Liffey Valley now but left up the main signs over the shop for the moment so as not to confuse people too much I guess.

The uk ones were changed over in November, Irish ones are officially Zavvi from this week on and the main signs over the shop will be taken down and replaced.
