Of the machines I've actually owned,
    mine would be something like:
    (edit: added N64 and descriptions)

1)Snes (Still love it on the emulators, such 2D gaming brilliance, pity the games were 50-60 Irish pounds in the early ninties :( )
2)Gamecube (The most underrated and underappreciated console ever. If only Nintendo didn't release the original design as a purple block - what were you thinking Nintendo? )
3)PSOne (amazing catalouge of games, Kula World is still the best game ever)
4)PSTwo (really started coming into it's own after 2-3 years)
5)Nintendo DS (m3 simply is a dream come true really)
    6) Nintendo 64 (I love Rare's games on that console)
6)Xbox 360 (don't really have it that long)
7)Megadrive (My first console, almost arcade perfect quality in your home)
8)Commodore 64 (Play the emulators now and the games are awful, but my first gaming experience)
    9) Original Gameboy (awful yoke - that dull monochrome screen was ghastly)

    1) PS2, I've had more fun with this than any other machine in my collection.
    2) N64, Mario 64, F-Zero, Jet Force Gemini, Pilot Wings, need I continue?
    3) Snes, Super Mario World, Super Metroid, Sim City etc
    4) Megadrive, Sonics, Road Rash, Thunder Force etc
    5) Gameboy Pocket, my fave portable of all time, Tetris nearly welded into it with use!
    6) Vectrex, if you own one, you'll understand.
    7) 3DO, while everyone else was playing Snes, I was playing Need For Speed, Star Control 2 and Return Fire, I still play it.
    8) Xbox 360, the next gen machine, Lost Planet, Bioshock, Halo3 all do it better than anyine else.
    9) Xbox, because of Steel Batallion and Halo/2 and PGR/2, awesome stuff.
    10) Dreamcast, a must have because of Powerstone and the greatest racing game of all time, MSR!

    1) Playstation - responsible for many of my all time favourites and the first console that really got me heavily interested in games

    2) PS2 - probably the best games catalogue of any console ever made, what more can you say

    3) Commodore 64 - I loved this, it was used for many years and literally hundreds of games, fantastic machine

    4) Gamecube - my favourite multiplayer console ever, for Monkey Ball, Mario Party, F-Zero, Smash Bros, Mario Kart. I never liked Ninty's big titles (Zelda, Metroid) but that didn't stop me enjoying the cube

    5) PS3 - still new and can only get better, but already great memories of its first year thanks to Heavenly Sword, Folklore, Uncharted, GT5:P, SSHD, R&C

    6) 360 - I don't like the noisy unreliable hardware and its a pity the majority of the "great" titles are repetitive FPS games but there is still some great quality like Mass Effect and Crackdown

    7) PSP - Very streaky, i'll play it tons for a couple of months then not touch it for a couple more, but I enjoy it when I do, especially when I get to play wifi

    8) Megadrive - I didn't have many games for it, but I didn't need any other than the wonderful Micro Machines

    9) DS - I've never really got on with my DS. Most of the games are terribly over-rated, Phoenix Wright is the one series that I love for it but beyond that it rarely holds my interest

    10) Wii - The only game I've actually liked for it is one I'd have rather played with a Gamecube controller. Huge sales means its getting a lot of developer attention though which means it might get some good games in future

    11) Gamegear - Woeful battery life, cumbersome, unreliable, and Shinobi is the single good game I can actually remember on it

And although I could count PC as a "games machine" I'd have no idea where to put it.

Does a pc count? My PC is pretty much a games machine... Anyways these are the ones I own.

1, PC - Quality of games, online, graphics, sound, mods, controlls, etc.. brilliance.

2, PS2 - Got it the christmas it came out and am still playing it, excellent machine full of top quality games.

3, PS1 - Got this and it really upped my interest in gaming, FF7!

4, Wii - Brilliant machine yet hardly any good games, I'm sure I'll play it more and more as more games are released, Mario Galaxy 4tw!

5, MegaDrive - First console, many brilliant memories.

6, Amiga - Really my first introduction to gaming, fun times!

7, Gameboy - Got one a few years ago and never really got into it, mobile gaming doesn't suit me.

Only ever played WoW on my PC, my specs weren't good enough for anything else.
WoW ran as well on my laptop as it did on the best internet gaming cafes in town.
It's an extremely well optimzed game.
Was planning to get back into it over Christmas, but never got round to do doing so.
I really loved playing it, but things went downhill when I hit level 60, those Molten Core etc big raids were unbelievably ****e. Some English twat sounding orders at you though his microphone, awful stuff.
I could just about tolerate the UBRS 10 man instance.
I'd love to start a new character and level him up though.

It ran like shoite on my old 6600gt (I had to turn a fair few of the graphics options down), but runs like a dream on my new rig... (as does everything except for Crysis)

    For me in a very rough order;

    1. Various pcs over the years
    1. Gamecube
    2. SNES
    3. Xbox 360
    4. PS2
    5. Mega Drive
    6. PS1
    7. DS
    8. Wii
    9. Amiga 600

PSP and PS3 wouldn't even make it onto any kind of list, due to the fact that I've only really played 1 great game on each so far...

    1. Xbox 360
    2. Sega Megadrive
    3. PC
    4. Nintendo 64
    5. Snes (didn't own one but spent many hours on SF2)
    6. Xbox
    7. Nintendo DS
    8. Commodore 64
    9. Playstation 2
    10. Gameboy Colour
    11. Playstation 3 (here because I've only got it 3 weeks)

Never had a sega master system, NES, gameboy, PS1, gameboy advance or PSP. PSP is probably the next addition though.

Was thinking about this recently. I would say:
    1. XBox 360: controversial choice, yes. But since I have only really been a big gamer since last gen, this has got the most playtime. Terrific line up of games and the first time Ive ever played online. It may have red ringed on me yesterday, but I anxiously await the repair.
    2. PS2: Some classic games that saw me through my teens. Lost way too many hours to Tony Hawks 3 and 4, plus classics like MGS2-3, Okami, Beyond Good and Evil, Katamari.
    3. PS1: Pretty much the same as above, just different games e.g. FF7-9, TH2, Medal of Honour.
    4. Gamecube: a fine piece of hardware that I credit with introducing me at a late age to Nintendo. Wind Waker remains a favourite, along with the likes of Resi 4.
    5. Mega Drive: my second console. Never really played any of the bigger games from it (I was too easily swayed by franchise games as a child) but the likes of Sonic 2 and Street Fighter in my cousins' house set me on the right path.
    6. Nintendo DS: despite a relatively small collection of games, Phoenix Wright / Ouendan et al have provided me with much communting entertainment.
    7. Xbox: only a small selection of AAA games (e.g. Stranger's Wrath, PD Orta) but overall a powerful and worthwhile buy for a solid selection of Western games.
    8. Misc Game Boys / Game Boy advances: have killed many bored hours, but only a few games I would return to e.g. Zelda series, Treasure GBA games (Astro Boy ftw!)
    9. Game Gear: my dark secret first console. Less said the better. Looked like a brick, guzzled batteries (six of the bastards). Barely remember the games either, just remember not being able to get very far at all in Sonic 2 :o

Forgot the Wii: would be somewhere in the middle. Probably between DS and Xbox, but only had it for two months, and only have 2 (admittedly very good games) so will reserve judgement.

Tonys Top Ten (note alliteration :D )

    1-Super Nintendo Entertainment System

    2-XBox 360

    3-Nintendo Wii

    4-Nintendo DS

    5-Gameboy

    6-Nintendo Gamecube

    7-Spectrum ZX

    8-PlayStation 2

    9-Atari 2600

    10-PlayStation 3

    Worst Console Purchase
    Playstation Portable

ibmpc compatible here too. The most mindblowing one for me was quake on a pentium 100mhz - the move from onboard trident video to a pci verite v1000 rendition graphics card is the biggest improvement I have ever seen. A good pc rig blows any console out of the water.

Well I've not owned a lot of machines so for me it's:

    1) Commodore 64. I had more fun on this than any other machine, played it for years and loved it.

    2) PC - Again, something I've played for years, Age of Empires 2, Sim City, CivIII, Quake, Duke Nukem 3D - all great fun

    3) PS3 - I've only had it since Christmas but I can see this becoming #1 very quickly as long as there are more games as good as Call of Duty 4 produced for it!

Here I am! These are just the ones I've ever owned, the NES would be quite high otherwise.

    1) SNES: The pinnacle of 2D gaming and so many masterpieces on it. First party games from nintendo were phenomenal.

    2) PS1: The best console any JRPG fan can have. Also had a small number of superb shoot'em ups. Every other genre was covered with unmissable games a plenty.

    3) PS2: Disappointed in JRPGs but in every other regard it was an excellent machine with some great and many unique games.

    4) Megadrive: Not a patch on the SNES but still and essential console due to some unmissable games.

    5) Gameboy Advance: Wonderful little console with a rake of excellent titles on it.

    6) DS: Really is turning into one of the best consoles ever. There seems to be at least 1 must have title every month, usually more.

    7) Saturn: Excellent 2D shmups and arcade ports and excellent 1st party sega games.

    8) PC: Despite the amount of quality releases dropping significantly in the last few years the PC still is the best multiplayer experience and great for lans. Gave me a lot of good memories in the past.

    9) Gamecube: Great collection of 1st party titles letdown by a lack of 3rd party support. Couldn't live without it but only as a supplement to the PS2

    10) Xbox360: Quickly becoming one of my favourite consoles. Great western games and online support and surprisingly more and better japanese games and JRPGs than the PS3.

    11) Wii: Not many great games at the moment but on hell of a party machine. Starting to get some excellent titles now.

    12) Gameboy: Never had many games but the wonders of emulation are revealing some cracking games despite some very simple hardware

    13) Dreamcast: Haven't played nearly enough of my dreamcast. Reminds me of the saturn great arcade ports and 1st party games and some really strong and unique 3rd party games.

    14) PSP: Some decent games just overshadowed by the sheer quality on offer from the DS. Battery life, or lack thereof, lets it down but the homebrew scene is excellent.

    15) N64: A handful of classics but unfortunately many games on this console have aged incredibly badly to the point of being unplayable. Still a great party machine.

    16) C64: Another console with games that have aged really badly but there are a few surprisingly good games. Also that unique sid chip sound is great :)

    17) Xbox: Panzer Dragoon Orta, Halo, Ninja Gaiden and the overrated Strangers Wrath. Thats the only 4 reasons to buy an xbox.

    18) PS3: Pretty pathetic machine at the moment. The only game worth playing that isn't a bad 360 port is Uncharted. I hope to god sony justify my purchase in 2008.

    finally.....

as for your comment on the N64 - I agree, excellent party game machine and all down to the fact that Ninty gave you 4 controller ports - unheard of at the time (unless you'd a rich friend willing to spash out on a multi tap). There were 3 of us that hung around back then and if we played the PS1 we were stuck taking turns - not with good old N64 though (and one of the most comfortable joypads to boot)

Snes ... Street fighter & "oh sh*t you've a red shell !?" on mario kart
Playstation ... soiled underwear playin Res evil with the lights off & bags under the eyes letting Final Fantasy own my soul
Xbox 360 ... giving me Ozzy Osbourne hands at the moment as i cant put the thing down
Ps2 ... some car rocking with the ladies of the night in Gta
Pc ... Games machine with hidden porn
Nes ... torn jaw muscles from blowing cartridges

    1. Amiga 500/1200. The only machine(s) that ever made a fanboy out of me. I even went to an Amiga expo or two in London, and there were actual tears when Commodore went bust, and then Escom. And, er, Gateway after that. It had some amazing games going for it in its glory days, and probably got a good chunk of today's developers started in programming. It had an embarrassing end, and never really had the modular upgrade ability today's PCs have, but and I'll never forget the good times of Worms, Micro Machines, Gloom, Captive, Project X, Elite 2, And god only knows how many fantastic shareware games. My first true love of gaming. Oh, and SWOS is probably still one of the best soccer games around.

    2. DS. It's a bloody brilliant little thing, and I'm glad I got one. If the games coming out for it weren't good enough (and they often are), there's the entire back catalogue of Gameboy Advance stuff I'd never played. Harvest Moon is so addictive it's seriously worrying.

    3. PC. This should be really more of a joint second. Possibly due to the rabid Amiga-fanboyism of my youth I had a very hard time getting used to PCs, particularly the earlier versions of Windows, inbred urine-soaked digital bugfests that they were. All the faffing about assigning DMAs and IRQs so you could, for example, hear more than "BLAAAAART!" during a game made it so much effort for ages. But now Windows is stable (enough), graphics and sound cards are standardised (enough), and so on, it's a damn good machine for games now, a far cry (haha) from 2D Robocop in 4 glorious colours. The Half Life series alone is reason enough to rank it for me.

    4. Wii. I know it's got relatively buggerall games for it right now, but I see the potential it has, and dare I say it, it made me feel like my good old Amiga days sometimes. Lots of sheer "15 minute quickie" style fun, with a couple of awesome slow-burners. Also, <3 virtual console. Ocarina Of Time ftw.

    5. PS2. I got one sometime around the start of the big fuss over the high price of the PS3, so it was dirt cheap and there was a massive amount of games available for me to dive into. The PS1 never really grabbed me for some reason, which is odd because it had by far the best ad campaign of the 3 so far, but the PS2 still gives me plenty of satisfaction, be it Okami, Guitar Hero or Tekken.
