    Hi,

Just wondering if anyone has had or been at a function in either Waterford, Portlick or Darver castles. If you have been, can you let me know what it was like? Good, bad, worth the money, suitable for a wedding, etc.

    Thanks.;)

I was at a wedding in Waterford Castle last December and it was really beautiful. The castle had been decorated for Christmas. There was a roaring fire in the entrance/seating area, a big tree in the corner and plenty of mulled wine on the go! The food was good. We were sat in a room off the main function room (might have been a sun room but it was chilly in December) which might be a negative to some people as you didn't really hear the speeches. I thought there was something magical about it and just a little different to your normal hotel weddings and you have to get to the castle by boat which adds to the experience IMO.

Friends of mine got had their wedding in portlick. It is a beautiful place. They rented it for 3 days, had the wedding there and then a massive BBQ/Party the next day for friends who couldnt come to the wedding. The manager ( Brian at the time) was very helpful. My mates organised their own caterers. They were given unrestricted use of the kitchens for the BBQ the next day.

Brian was more concerned with everyone having a good weekend than racking up the additional charges! A pleasure to deal with.
