Webpage design & costing

    Hi,

I need to get a webpage designed for our company website, which at present is fairly basic and purely informational. The webpage will be a major link from a popular Irish webpage. The page needs to include key product information, an online form and should facilitate entry to an online competition.
Measurement of visitors to the page from the link is very important. Our recommended provider of the webpage has quoted a price of circa 1500 which I think is ridiculous. Can anyone advise please?

All you need is Google Analytics to mesaure website statistics. And as regards €1500 for a site, you were being ripped off about 8-10 times the price.

PM me if you want me to review your requirements, and I will name reputable web design companies/people in Ireland based on your needs.

I don't think it's "ridiculous" at all. I assume you're asking the person to design the website from scratch, with a new look and feel - given you say its pretty basic.

Unless your website designer downloads a template and perhaps customises that, I doubt you will get many web designers to do a new looking website to match your branding for much less than 1.5k - well give or take a few hundred euro.

Whats the address of your current site?

Also - you should use www.adverts.ie to advertise this under "services wanted".

Seems like a very reasonable price -IF you are getting a professional and not a student.

'as regards €1500 for a site, you were being ripped off about 8-10 times the price.'

SO you could do the site for 150-187.50

Are you interested in a subcontract?

The price really depends! What is really needed here:

    - an addon page to your exisiting site (no change in design, just new content and imagery)
    - signup form (either going into a database or sending you an email)
    - google analytics

That's it really or is more needed? At a really basic content level and the sign up form just sending you an email, this should only take 2-3 hours max. If custom graphics are needed for the content and a database is needed to store the entrants and give you access to view them, it could take around 10-12 hours total.

So depending on your needs and how accurate the above "spec" is, this should take 2-12 hours. So ranging in price, this would be anywhere from €100 to €1200 probably.

What exactly did your existing provider quote for?

    Hope this helps!

    Rgds, Dave

I've seen your sites posted for review in the webmaster forum, didn't comment as I'd nothing constructive to say to you, but with those comments you invite it. Anything i've seen from you has been badly designed rubbish, with no care given to the look of your 'website'. There's too many know it all cowboys in the industry, and they are the ones who will rip you off, and actually do a disservice to your business. I can't say that 1500 is good without seeing the quality of the persons work, but I don't think you would get a professional website for cheaper.

Nevf, you were also 16 when you posted those sites, should someone still in school be giving advice?

We have a newly revamped website but we are currently without our web design/IT guy so I need to outsource the design of an additional webpage for an upcoming campaign.

I agree that circa 1500 is perfectly reasonable for a complete website design but I certainly will not be paying that much for a single webpage.

This sounds like it could either be a 200 EUR job or a 2000 EUR job depending on the exact specs. I don't think it serves anybody, and nor does it reflect well on the professionalism of the OP who said "8-10 times the price".

Some people think paying over 15,000 EUR for a new car is stupid money and some people spend twice that on second hand cars. Same with websites.

Its about average. I wouldnt be to annoyed with the price, you could get cheaper and you could get a lot more expensive.

You should always get a quote before starting a project anyway

I doubt its going to be just "one page". I would imagine there is a few pages in that brief. I think though, 1500 is a tad bit expensive for just one page - but I cant see that being fitted into one page.

I have come across this guy on a free ads website and I’ve been impressed with his work, his web designs are very professional and he doesn’t seem expensive for what you want. His start at 350 euro for basic package like what you are looking for. If you like his work contact him on his site and tell him I referred you to him.

We use etrix.ie, so why not contact this crowd for a competitive quote as i did research before i went with them and they were the cheapest.

Fifteen hundred's a ridiculous price for what you're asking.
Should be looking at half that price at least

I've been looking for an ecommerce web site also, i came across international website designers, which compared to Irish designers are for next to nothing, mostly based in india, costing around 250 euro, which is for nothing, would be hard to get a professional website for anything near that here in ireland

If you go over onto Adverts and post your requirements you'll probably be inundated with offers.

Post up the full spec and you'll probably get a proper answer on how much work is involved.

As david said ... its between 2 - 3 hours and 10 - 15 depending on what your exact requirements are.

Developers / Designers will be charging anywhere from 20 - 100 per hour. (or less / more)

Find the right one for you (not necessarily the cheapest)

If you're dealing with a bigger company they'll have overheads hence may be charging more than a freelancer.

Learn frontpage in a few hours & do a basic site yourself. It will not win prize but it is cheap as chips. Time is on your side.

1500 is reasonable. Unless you want to go down the Joomla route and build the site yourself.
You do need to think about what you are getting for your money. Can you update teh site yourself or do you have to go back to your designer and pay them again to update it.

Also there is no point in setting up a one page site if you are hoping to be found on search because changes are that is not going to happen with one page of content.

We have a website-I was simply looking for a quote for an additional web page as we had no one in house to do it at the time.

We have since hired someone full time to take care of our website and so far so good. Thanks for all of the advice.
