    Hi,

Am looking to buy a PS3 and was just wondering where the best value can be
    achieved?

Am looking for the console + extra controller + 2 games (the best 2 available)

Also can anybody comment of the online platform (play network or something) - Is this Likely to catch up with XBox live in 2008?

It would be hard to give you a definitive answer as the shops change their deals so often.

I bought my ps3 last October in HMV of all places. I normally would say that they are an expensive place to shop but at the time they were doing the best deal of all the shops. I got the 60gb ps3, 2 games and a blu ray movie for €499. Game and Gamestop were a hundred euro dearer for the same deal at the time.

So the answer is shop around.

As for online play, the prime advantage of the psn (playstation network) over xbox live is that the psn is FREE!!!!!!!!!! No subscription charges, monthly fees etc. You can download game demos, movie trailers etc or for a fee, entire games at half the price you'd pay for them in the shops, e.g. warhawk. There's a great online community and I've logged many a happy hour playing COD 4 online.

that's the current smyths offer. couldn't find any others but you should call hmv, virgin and xtra vision and also gamestop and ask what the current bundle is and then decide. that's what i did and at the time hmv had the best offer but it always changes
