I have no issues with Fring. It didn't work for about 2 months late last year, but that was resolved after a couple of phonecalls. Has been working flawlessly ever since. On Mobile Broadband 100 with a monthly contract.

3s broadband is a joke, people are worse signing up with them. I ditched them after a few months when I found out about their sorrid offering.

I mean there is a 1,000,000,000,000 page thread on the broadband forum about three, what more can be said.

I got the N95 on Three before Christmas but have been too busy to get the port issue sorted.I'll be phoning them again and again to get certain ports opened and I'll let ye know how I get on.

I'd be happy with Fring tbh as I really need to use it.

    What ports does fring use?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,045 ✭✭✭Bluefrog

I remember reading before in the forum on the Fring site that the ports are assigned dynamically. There may or may not have been a range mentioned - can't recall. In any case it seems to me from what people are reporting here that you either get an all or nothing form of access with Three. Make a big enough fuss and I think you'll get what you want - good luck explaining what fring is to CS :D

Looks like there blocking the original iskoot now too, was working fine for me up until monday.

Mumbai is of the opinon that they do not block fring and it's all my fault that it does not work.

When I change my Irish SIM to a UK Sim and it works fine but than on return to the Irish SIMit does not work, than surely it can't be my Nokia or me, it must be 3.

    From 3 Customer Support:

Thank you for your email regarding the issues that you’re facing with the Mobile Broadband Service on the Nokia N73 handset. I was unable to call you as you’ve not mentioned your contact details.

We’d need to speak to you in order to discuss the matter further. Unfortunately, I was unable to access your account from the information in your email. I’d like to inform you that we do not block any ports.

We will need to perform certain diagnostics to resolve the issue. I’d suggest that you call our technical team so that this can be resolved at the earliest. Alternatively, give us a specific date, time and number where we can contact you to sort this out.

It is unfortunate that as a valued customer your experience with 3 has not met with your expectations. However I can assure you that once the issue is been sorted out, you’ll enjoy using the 3 services.

I’m sure you’d appreciate that this cannot be resolved via an email as this needs technical assistance. You may wish to contact our Technical Support Team by dialing 333 from a 3 phone (free of charge) or 1800 944034 (free of charge) and select option number 5. The working hours are from Monday to Sunday between 09.00 am to 22.00 pm.

    Subject: Issues with 3.... still.

I have a Nokia N73 on the 3 Mobile Network.

    Ongoing issues:
I can still only make outgoing connections on port 80 (http) and maybe pop
    (110), smtp (25) and https (443).
Basically that's only 4 ports what I can make outgiong connectivity on. (not
    a broadband service at all).

Making a connection through the protocols telnet, ssh, imap, jabber, icq,
irc does not work at all. Ftp is hit and miss.
Internet radio streams are also not possible,

Any applications that use ports OTHER than the 4 mentioned above will no
    longer work.

For example, I used to use:
fring, spodtronic, wireless-irc, mGTalk, Putty, VoIPbuster, windows
messenger. Google Talk dont work anymore. They used to work before September
    17th.

I am age verified (several times now as your customer support asked me to do
this so many times) and I have purchased 100MB Mobile Broadband for my Nokia
    N73.

I don't want to be told to take out the battery, reset phone settings to
default etc again, because after 5 times, I think we can conclude that this
    does not resolve the problem.

It's not a problem with the handset as everything was working perfect before
17th September and a lot more people have these issues now. All our phones
didn't just pack it in after that date.

I need ports open for a full broadband service.

Please sort this out as soon as possible.

    Hey Dano,

That's the classic Three Ireland fob-off. I would (and have) respond that under no circumstances are you going to entertain more calls by phone from them as you have already been through that process to no avail, that you are aware your problems are not isolated to you or your handset via boards.ie and that you expect an immediate and meaningful response. You can tell them any instructions that they have for troubleshooting your phone can be detailed just as ably by email and that you insit on future correspondance being in writing. Have you asked them to reprovision your account - that did solve some issues for me at one point.

When I had the blocking issues I basically made such a nuissance of myself I gave them no option but to address the issue. I forced them to engage by email. I posted on blogs including the official XSeries one, posts which they attempted to remove (I simply complained within the blog and reposted). I would make them aware of your intentions to do this as well as to publicly post all their correspondance online.

Hope you get somewhere with them - they are the pitts to deal with.

3 Ireland suck a big one but one problem I have never had on my N95 is fring, Skype or indeed Internet radio.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,134 ✭✭✭x in the city

    yes cula;)

to say three suck is an understatment of the year.

I'd just love it if three somehow went bust and leave us alone.....:)

Ya in comparision to their italien counterparts they have a lot of work to do but they do not suck by any means.

Whilst there are several problems with the mobile broadband service that Three provide for the mobiles I think that you'd be out of luck in trying to complain about them blocking you from using a client to access Skype on their €10 a month service when they do list access to Skype as part of the package when you sign up for the €20 a month deal.

If you were on the Xseries package and complaining about those ports being blocked then you'd have a point, but not on the €10 a month package. You are perfectly justified in complaining about any internet radio not streaming correctly or anything else, but not services that they clearly list under one of their other premium packages.

there was no port blocking issues up till September 07

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,267 ✭✭✭h57xiucj2z946q

    My reply to them:

My mobile number is 08********, however I do not wish to communicate over the phone. I will to communicate via email, therefore I will have a record of communication, should it be needed.

I do still feel that 3 are blocking ports even though you say the are not. Why are my applications and applications of so many other users not able to connect after September 2007. Its hardly a coincidence ?

Many other people using the 3 network think this also. You can see for yourself here:

A community of people with problems in relation to the 3 Network usually post here:
    http://3broadband.info/communityserver/forums/

We can conclude that this is not a problem with my phone or account when so many other people are experiencing these issues?

Also copies of these emails are been posted across blogs/forums for the public to view who are also experiencing the same level of quality and service.

On a side note, 3 are now using a site to conduct survey's of thieir customer support via email replys. The request will look something like this:
Hi there. At 3 we welcome your views and opinions. We would appreciate if you take two minutes to complete a short survey by following the link below. Your feedback will be used to help us deliver a better customer experience. Thank you – your opinion counts.
https://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=U2lxUAE99zIrE_2bp93uQ9_2fA_3d_3d//o3%20customer%20survey (note that url wont work for you now as I just send back my feedback, each url requeast is unique) I think we sould fill in these feedback requests accurately when ever we are are asked so 3 will get an idea how bad their customer support really is and see room for improvement.
