Not sure if this is the right place, but here goes. I have a pair of these http://www.behringer.com/B1520-PRO/index.cfm?lang=engand a Kool sound TX-750 750W amp. (can't find details online but spec is 2x750W maximum, 2x500WRMS 4Ohm, 2x350WRMS 8Ohm, 1x1400WRMS 8Ohm Bridged) I use VDJ through my 00DJ and a KAM KCM350 mixer.

I turn the amp up full, then adjust the sound level from the mixer. But as the night goes on I turn it up and it starts clipping the amp. What is the correct way to set up the speakers? At the moment I have one cable going into each speaker. Is there a better way? i.e. 2 amps, but then I would need different cables? Any suggestions welcome.

well those speakers are 800 watts at 8ohms and your amp is putting out 350 watts at 8 ohms on each side ,you need either a bigger amp, one that can handle 800w at 8ohms per side. that amp you're using hasnt enough power to drive the speakers, so it starts clipping.

Know the one that's one too many. You're pushing your rig too hard, so back off on the mixer and keep it that way unless you want to blow your speakers or kill your amp or possibly even both.

    Wrong

They are rated @ 800w "Peak Program" whatever the hell that is in Behringer marketing lingo, their manual says 400w RMS so you could send it 600-800w of amp power if you trusted those specs (FWIW I don't).

The OP is underpowering his boxes but a more powerful amp will not help him cure his volume control twitch.

beg your pardon, was taking the 800 w as the rms rating, my bad..

So what would be a good amp? I don't have a huge budget, so cheep as chips please!

    Buy cheap, buy twice.;)

You should be giving those speakers 600-800w of power, so find an amp that does 600-800w @ 8ohm. Now, you may not hear an audible difference, when you're at that end of the market it's all much of a muchness.

Disclaimer: Before you go spending any money remember giving a speaker X amount of power is one thing, it sounding "good" is a different matter entirely.

One would reasonably assume, by your handle, you're a working DJ. Do you charge your clients a rate that is "cheap as chips"? Many DJ's I've come across don't give a monkey's about having good gear, kinda odd considering playing music is in the job description

I don't get very many gigs as I am still refining my set up! I did have a 'residency' at a bar in skerries, but it has closed. (I think you know which one ;) ) Also I am finding it hard to get gigs here due to being newish, english and only a small set up.

But if I had say €300 - €350 what amp could I get?

Did you even look at what's available or do you just wanna be told "buy this"? Google is your friend. You've already been told what spec amplifier you need, don't be afraid to go and do a bit of research. If you're not that industrious, go to any local ripoff music shop and let the salesman dazzle you with the rhyming of meaningless numbers and features while he charges you double for the pleasure.

Option B, DIY and pick up some valuable info along the way, knowledge is power ;)

Savman, well it seems a bit strange that I have had about 8 gigs cancel once they have spoken to me and found out I'm english. Co-incedence? maybe, but there you go. Well thanks for the advice, I will have a google for some bigger amps.

BTW on speakerplans forum someone said my amp and mixer were ****e, they said the mixer was abedroom mixer. So why did it get the best mixer award under £200 in 2005?

Maybe just have a look around and see what's available.

I wouldn't pretend I'm anyway familiar with your speaker & amp, but I certainly wouldn't go by some award unless its from a magazine or source you rate very highly.

Like with everything you get what you pay for, and in fairness judging by what you are using and what you paid for it, you really can only expect a certain level of quality. If that's enough for you, then happy days but if you want the real good stuff you'll have to dig deep.

I'd be very surprised if being English lost you that many gigs, I'd be more inclined to suggest it's something got to do with the way you sell yourself or whatever vibe you put across. But whatever, that's another day's thread. Good luck with the amp shopping, let's know how it goes.

Thanks Savman, I wont be doing it til later in the year anyways, was just testing the water, so to speak! Does anyone have any suggestions? I have heard Sounds Around in capel street are pretty good. I got the amp from them and they included a flightcase and even fitted it for me! (probably to detract from the poor quality of the amp!)

Take it easy and will defo post my shopping results!
