Here there's a little bit of data for last year's Orientation & fresher's Week (incl "Balls"). I think it's going to be more of a meeting of drunkards than a black tie event :D
I still haven't received any info on accommodation btw! should be here tomorrow though... roommates  :P

Howy Steve.

There's a Paintball Soc?! That sounds like a must-join. Would give me a chance to put my Call Of Duty skills into rel-life stuations! :D

Well there certainly used to be a few years ago......I think I remember that DCU Paintball Club actually organised intravarsities one year.

And if there isnt one....we shall set one up!

Every event in DCU is called the ______ Ball. The only ones that are actually fancy are the Clubs & Socs Ball and the Graduation Ball. The others, like the Orientation Ball and Fresher's Ball are just like normal nights out and a great way to meet people.

That sounds a'right. Though I have to admit, to me, getting drunk in a gown has always seemed a bit more civilized than getting drunk in jeans :p

Name's Carly by the way. :)

I won't meet you in class, cos I'll be CS2, but if you get involved in Drama I'll know you through there.

Drama has given me the best year of my life. No contest. It's totally changed me for the better, and joining (and actively involving myself in) DCU Drama is the best thing I have ever done. My drama friends are my closest friends in the world, right up with the friends in school.

We didn't win Best Society in Ireland at the BICS this year for nothing!

Has the Drama Soc got a website?

I think it's under construction, a friend of mine is the Webmaster on this year's committee and he wants to redo the whole thing, the old site was a bit dated.

www.dcudrama.ie

The slightly more active Bebo page:

A communications paint ball session = awesome. I haven't been either, but a few of my friends are getting into it. They seem to really enjoy it. Airsoft too, but that doesn't look like quite as much fun. Anyway, I think thats a great idea.

Societies wise, I reckon I'll probably pop my head in on publications, media productions, comics and art. & drama too. Especially after hearing what goodgodholmes had to say about it. There's such a huge choice though.

As much as I like musicals......I'm afraid it's been a long time since a sang, and even longer since I sung in public.

Paintball session seems to be popular lol

Of course paintballing is popular. What says 'bonding' more than shooting each other with colourful bullets? :D

if there's one thing i've learned this year, it's that you dont need talent to be involved in drama! obviously for the more serious plays they cast ridiculously talented people, and amazing singers and actors get the leads in the musical and the panto, but getting your foot in the door is easy :) thanks be to god for me :P

Steve is the name

 Another Steve?! Just call me Stephen then, save us all the confusion :pac:

I haven't really given much thought into the clubs & societies really, but I definitely want to get involved in a few things.

Hey everyone,

I'm Diarmuid. Looking forward to meeting ye all.
Does anyone know what date the freshers and Orientation balls are on?

And I'm thinking of joining:
Debating
Media production
Drama

and I dunno what else really. Maybe a bit of paintballing for good measure.
I've been told I get very competitive when it comes to paintball tho.:o
