Just a quick reminder in case anyone bought one of these recently (they were (are still?) on sale for €599 in PC World), remember to claim the free battery:
    http://www.toshiba.co.uk/offer

The included battery is only 2000mAh and only gives around 1 hour of use as opposed to the second free battery which is 4000mAh, which I suppose should give around 2 hours use, a bit better anyway.

Why they couldn't just have supplied the laptop with the higher capacity battery in the first place is beyond me, as the poor life of the original battery is really the only downside of an otherwise decent budget machine. Must be costing them a fortune to be shipping thousands of new batteries out.

Probably because when most people wouldn't know what a 2000mAh battery is. It's usually not something people take into account when buying a new laptop but if they see it has a second battery free it adds to the value of the laptop so they would probably choose it over another laptop.

The reason they are supplying the crapper battery is probably because there will be people who won't apply for the second battery offer because they forgot or just couldn't be arsed. This means that toshiba saves money by providing the cheaper battery with the laptop.

That's the thing though, it was only a small sticker on the box, wasn't advertised as bonus or anything on the display in the shop.

Not if I've anything to do with it!
