Its pretty funny, the main guy with the curly hair is funny. I like this humour. Some bits are a bit...well meh, but definetly not terrible.

You are joking right? its pure ****e! same old RTE dribble!

People are far too quick to dismiss anything new by RTE, I thought it was alright.

I'm enjoying it so far. Nice and quirky. :)

People are far too quick to defend things that have already been slated. It's terrible, simple as. I hope these guys have not ruined it for other writers in this country. The thing is, Stephen Stubbs, one of the writers/creators is quite a talented writer, think he just stuck with this creation for longer than he should have.

Its not that bad. The charachters happen to be somewhat interesting. Their accents don't get to me. The nerd guy who is like an encyclopedia(?) on sports is a charachter which could be developed. I don't feel it has been exploited that well, they could have made it funnier.

Some funny scenes, like when he tapped her on the nose after giving the clothes to charity. Seemed like a Mr. Bean scene.

Tubey- I hated the Jake Stevens show. Honestly if this was a load of crap, I would be loving the banter giving it abuse.

    I'm warning well in advance..

The last Roaring Twenties thread was locked for a reason - don't let this thread go the same way but will be keeping a close eye on it.

Woeful, five minutes is enough of this crap. Are the writers all second-year students?

Oh great another ****e rte comedy, Wow they really spent my tv license well.

What ever that is , its not humour.

Decided to give it a second chance this week but I think this episode is even worse if anything.

Here, perhaps you hate the show, but don't go bashing it. If you have no interest just don't comment.

You cannot hate the charachters in this show, some of them are good.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,872 ✭✭✭segadreamcast

Last week's episode was pure drivel.

So based on that, this is an improvement.

The sports character, as someone said above, is easily the best thing about it. This episode, on its own, would get 3 - maybe 4 - out of 10. No way can this show be expanded though. Two writers 'spreading' themselves across two episodes and this is the best they could do? Honestly. That's upsetting.

Similarly, someone else above said that Stubbs is a good writer... what else has he written? I know he won a Smedia. Is that what this is based on?

Ok thats annoying, This Afternoon Show crap is wack.

    5/10

Some, and I stress some what I call funny scenes, but some of the plot did not seem to be going anywhere.

I'm sorry to have crossed the line and I will refrain from having an opinion in future.

its what i consider car-crash TV, its so very very bad for the 2nd week in a row i am still yet to laugh, but why the hell cant i stop watching it.

The narators commentary was the only funny thing infact saying things like hopefully whatever the characters name is is doing something better or that wasnt very good

    alrite,

I dont know why people think its that bad.

    good enough humour.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,349 ✭✭✭✭super_furry

Well it was definately better than last week's car crash. The start with the two flash-back scenes was funny - again very much reminiscent of Spaced. The sports nerd was pretty good and the end with the tramp at the bin-fire made me smile. Can't say anything good about the rest though, so I won't. It seems to be a case of too many ideas being crammed into too small a time frame. You could easily lose one or both of the Kevin and Seamas characters - they're unfunny, annoying and add nothing. The other two seem much more well developed and would probably be better on their own.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 23,316 ✭✭✭✭amacachi

Yeah I strongly disliked last week's episode, but this is even worse. I was confused last week as to why two episodes were made, even before I saw it. Surely one episode as a pilot would've made sense or a full series, but even with two episodes there wasn't a single moment that made me smile.

You know what the funniest thing was? after ray went running after the van with a samurai sword, the news headline straight after the show ended said 'a call for a ban on imitation samurai swords after a mans hand is severed' CLASSIC :D

Pretty funny, good thing show wasn't on before incident in Finglas, otherwise they would blame '20 Something'

I don't know about that, I think it can be blamed for windows broken at RTEby rocks by the end of the night

I have to say, I enjoyed it. I thought the second part of tonight's show was weaker than part 1 and I reckon this might be one of the show's biggest problems: it's running time may be too long. I think it would work better as a 10-15 minute show.

I have seen far worse attempts at comedy on RTE and from Britain and North America. I laughed a good bit (again, mostly the first half, the second half was pretty weak IMO) and I enjoyed the characters. It does need to be more consistant and/or have a shorter running time. That would serve it better.

The two episodes are now over, we can now all get on with our lives. Ultimately this show should not have been commissioned without being given serious script development time which it did not have. Lets just all be thankful it wasn't six episodes...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,474 ✭✭✭YeatsCounty

So it was only 2 episodes in total? I only learned of this program's existence when the opening credits rolled tonight.

i attually laughed out alot tonight.. and its getting good feedback from here so far tonight... so that must mean something :P

So only positive comments then? People have opposing opinions and are just as entitled to state them as you are yours. If you disagree, go make a 'Roaring Twenties:Positive Posts Only' Thread.

I once again was extremely disappointed. I watched this week to see if the show could get any worse. It didn't, but it didn't get any better either. The show is rubbish. And the cast should be court marshaled for crimes against acting. The lady of the quartet is the only one with any potential to be a half decent actress.

Irish actors just seem to over act and try too hard for some very strange reason.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 658 ✭✭✭Crazy Christ

The overacting, the really hammed up facial expressions; you can be zany and wacky and still maintain a small bit of subtlety. I hate the way everything, down to the voices, has to be so overstated, everybody like they are on speed, it is extremely grating. It's enough to the most obvious, overused jokes but they have to be delivered with a crazy face and an over-top tone of voice. Whoever wrote this might think they can write the next Spaced, but it's more like Tesco Value Comedy Paint by Numbers.

Come to think of it, the worst thing about the IT Crowd is the Oirish guy. He would be more at home in this thing

I think people just can't be arsed complaining anymore dude. The show was a poor amateur production (and I mean that more as a slur against the RTE "entertainment" department than the creators themselves). It's over, lets move on, there's another new RTE comedy on tomorrow night, who knows what it will be like!!?? Wish them the best of luck....

Yes, because RTE are reknowned for all the amazing Irish shows they use our money for...

I agree with this. It could have been really funny and well produced if it had more time for developement. It seemed rushed and unpolished. It wasn't an amazing series, but there have been many, many worse shows.

Oh, and I've a feeling everyone will forget about the Roaring Twenties after tonight. Katherine Lynch's Working Girls starts tonight on RTE 2. I generally like to give new shows a chance, and am fairly forgiving with them, but after watching the ad for this, I simply won't be able to watch it.

I don't think u should fully blame RTE for wasting the money, it seems to me that its the people of Ireland that come up with the Ideas and act them out, so in reality you are criticisingly the people of Ireland who spend time in college acting, producing, theater etc etc

would you rather RTE go down the line of TV3 and buy Americian & British s&it comedy sitcoms

So if ya dont like it dont watch it

I thought last week was utterly utterly utterly horrific.

However, I though this week was an improvement. Maybe it was because my expectations were lower. Maybe it was because it was actually better..!!!! I don't know.

Like others, I though the sports geek at the paper was quite funny. Also I thought yer mon working for the Social Welfare was good. It's how I'd imagine I'd turn out myself if I spent 30 years in that job.

I also thought the lead charachter (I'm shocking with names) with the curly hair was quite funny last night. And his girlfriend, although she's not the funniest charachter in the show, she's (by a mile) the best actor.

On the downside, the other two lads are shocking. The business student is at best...annoying.... at worst.... throw the telly out the window infuriating. The other fella..... is just nothing. He is neither funny or offensive. He might as well not be there.

All in all..... if it was on again next week.... I'd probably watch it.

Horribly unfunny with crap characters and crap script. The overacting of every character was terrible. I think the writers need to learn that zany does not automatically equal funny and making every f'in character zany is a recipe for disaster.
