    define best;

    do you mean:
    most reliable
    best value for money
    best looking
    best build quality

it's all subjective, everyones idea of a good or bad car differs.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 102 ✭✭moomoo2007

Well let me CLARIFY a little better for you, i guess the best quality build and most reliable and most reputable car versus the opposite least reliable etc etc

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,833 ✭✭✭✭Armin_Tamzarian

    Best:
    Bugatti
    Ferrari
    Aston Martin

    Worst:

I'd say Honda, Lexus, Subaru at the summit, although the German Fanboys might beg to differ.

At the other end of the table, Renault and eh ..........

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,668 ✭✭✭eringobragh

Well i find Japs in general very reliable ,as are the Germans.

Well i'll throw one into the Hat. Having driven a company van for 2 years i've changed jobs and i got a car from a family member:

    Relaible:

1995 Nissan Primera 1.6 - 180,000 Miles, Original Clutch / Clutch Cable, Gearbox and engine. Excellent runner.

    on the sh1t list:

FIAT Punto, Stilo (Headlight bulbs are a c*nt to change). Opel Corsa B (Owned one , cheap feel, rattly gearboxes in them). Daewoo Lanos (Self Explanitory)

Best - Ford -every car in their range drives really well.Great value & relability.
    - Alfa Romeo -Even if they drove like VW's I would still love them.
    - Mazda - Because they build the mx5.

Worst - VW - The second most over rated cars built. Name one that
    is top of its class.
    - Audi- The most over rated cars made. VW's in frocks.
    - Opel- Snore.

    I'd have to agree.
I've had a few Audis and found them spot on.
I've also had Passats and found them even better.

Let's not forget about the R32 Golf and the RS4 / RS8, etc...

Sometimes it doesn't succeed, but we try to have some level of informed debate on this forum! Conjecture, heresay, and pub talk is normally frowned upon, as are myths about goblins, fairys, unreliable fiats, reliable vws and ghosts!

Maidhc: Then why are u posting anything on it :rolleyes:

Whats wrong with audi a3's not the newer version the 1998- think to 2002 version sexxy looking motor. Like not into all the modded up motors but ohh the toyota celica again older version hott stuff, are they are 2L engines or can they come in 1.6 anyone know.

I'd agree but the TDi version's not a bad car, they don't look too bad
lowered with skirts and a nice set of 17s.
Nothing too OTT just a bit of subtle styling.

By the way what cars do MADZA make? I know MAZDA make the MX5 , the worlds best selling sports car.

As far as I know the Celica comes in 1.6, 1.8, 2.0 and a Turbo version.

Hmm excellent, there a fairly good reputable car arent they, prob insurance cost mental money though:(

Funny the wayz at first glance a toyota starlet resembles the nifty lil toyota glanza or is that just me:rolleyes:

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,833 ✭✭✭✭Armin_Tamzarian

Don't think the insurance would be too bad on a 1.6 / 1.8 Celica,
    depending on age, etc.

I like the shape of older Celicas, like the model that was out in 1990 and the one after that around '93, '94.
I wouldn't be too gone on the more recent models though.

Glanzas are Starletts but don't tell a Glanza owner that:D

What's wrong with it is that the VW Golf is an almost identical car, but it is cheaper. What's the point in paying more and getting the same thing:confused:?

Or are 4 circular rings on a bonnet that important in badge snobbery Ireland?

FWIW the bigger Audis are quite different to VWs but the A3 is a Golf with a fancier frock.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 102 ✭✭moomoo2007

He he would honestly think that wouldnt you amount of paritally modded starlets going about  Yea well just looking on carzone.ie dont see any 1.6 celicas seem to be 2.0 or 1.8 hmm

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 102 ✭✭moomoo2007

No wayz is a golf the same shape or design as an audi no way :) nope cant see resemblence at all. You are paying for a better quality car in relation to the audi imo.

The 1.6 version may only have been available on older models.
I drove a 1982? 1.6 Celica before so they definitely exist.
Bit pointless having a 1.6 Celica though unless you're only concerned with looks.

How does changing a few body panels equate to it beign a better quality car?

Well VW and Audi are the same company now so they aren't that different.
I think they've the same engine and possibly the same chassis and alot of other parts are probably the same too.

Personally I'd take a Golf over an A3 anyday.

He said that audi are just a fancier option im saying audi cars any style are a better make of motor than vw thats all and that audi a3's dont share any resemblence with golfs thats all.

And in relation to celicas and not after one for the sake of how it looks i would rather a 1.6 version because could not afford tax nor insurance of anything bigger.

    .

You said your paying for a better quality car , which your not, your payign for the badge.

Skoda fair better on recent reliability and satisfacyion surveys than both VW and Audi despite being largely the same cars on the concerned models. What are you paying for there by buyign the premium priced audi?

    I'd say you'd have to go for a 1.8L.
I think the only 1.6 Celicas were in the really old models.

You can pick up a 1.8 Celica very cheaply...

What's the point in a Celica with a 1.6 engine? It defeats the purpose of this type of car. That's what Hyundai Coupes are for.

As for the Audi being better than a VW, VW being better than a Skoda, etc. Its the power of marketing aimed at people's perception of things:- The more something costs = the better the product. Complete and utter rubbish.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,833 ✭✭✭✭Armin_Tamzarian

I'd agree about the Celica, though I think the lowest engine size you can get now is 1.8L.
I guess if you like the looks of a Celica but aren't interested in power then 1.8 would be the way to go.

Personally if I were going for a sports / performance car I'd have to go for the Turbo / MIVEC / VTec / etc.

On a somewhat related subject, a pet hate of mine is people who dress up there cars to be better models than they really are.
E.g. fake Cosworths, 1.4 Golfs with GTi badges, fake M3s, etc, etc.

RE VW and Audi, I've owned A4s and Passats and I have to say that I found the Passat to be superior.
Mainly down to the handling / way it held the road.
The A4s seemed to be badly balanced in comparison and didn't handle sharp corners very well.

The Celica is now discontinued, 1.8 was the only engine size, with 140 or 189bhp versions. VVTL-i was used in the 189bhp version which is Toyotas answer to VTEC/MIVEC.

Well they did a 1.6 version of the Celica on some of the early models, MK I / Mk II, I'm not sure which.
Any GT4 models I've seen have been 2.0L.

Sorry if my post about MIVEC / Turbo was ambiguous.
I was trying to say that let's say I was going for a FTO I'd have to go for the 2.0 MIVEC and not the 1.8, or if I was looking at Celicas / MR2s I'd have to go for a Turbo over a NA model, etc, etc.

This is fact not conjecture. An A3 is a fancy Golf. Look it up if you like but the facts are the facts. They share the same platform, engine, gearboxes, brake systems, and other mechanical items that most of us will never see.
Eg: There's a Golf 2.0 TDI and funnily enough there's an A3 2.0TDI. What about the Golf 1.6 with its ancient eight valve enigine? Funnily enough that appears in the A3 also. I could go on, and on and on...
    :p

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,833 ✭✭✭✭Armin_Tamzarian

There's probably also a Scoda and a Seat that belong to the same family as the A3 and the Golf.

But like I said before I'd take the Tdi Golf over the A3 equivalent.

Is there any A3 equivalent to the Gti, VR6, and R32?
    Like a RS3?
I've heard of RS3s but I've never seen one.

whats with all the hype about VAG mobiles in the last few years? there nowhere near as good as some people make them out to be.,
and yes, an A3 IS a golf, so much so that you'll find VW markings on various engine parts in the A3., i wouldnt have either but the A3 is for stupid people who think they have a car 10 times better than it really is. then the golf owners can laugh at them.

    as for the original topic,
Id say honda for the best due to bulletproof reliability of honda engines going back decades, theres nothing else out there for similar money that is as reliable as them,. their first diesel engine they brought out in the accord is a great engine too.,

worst would be a tough one but i think id go with Rover, their cars looked ok but they loved to eat headgaskets and water pumps etc,. also every new car they released was just the old one with a gift voucher for halfords spent on it.,

    Normal Number plate

Only on boards could you find someone who's never heard of Bugatti or an MX-5 lecturing people on how an A3 bears no resemblance to a Golf.

I really ought to stick to Octane.
