Problem with audio out connection on TV

I just got a pair of JBL Spyro speakers to use with my TV. I connected them to the audio out at the back of the TV but there is hardly any sound coming out. I tried them with my laptop and they work fine so does this mean that there is a problem with the TV or could there possibly be interference from other equipment involved?

    Any advice?

    A few questions ,

What is the model of the TV ,

How are you connecting , what type of cable to what type of connection,

I doubt very much that its interference , it sounds like the connection is not great , so post the cables the connectors and the specific TV model , should be able to help from there.

The TV is a Polaroid FLU2632. The cable I'm using is a phono into a 3.5 stereo mini jack. I'm now sure that it is the TV because I tried this cable with the speakers in another TV and it's working fine. The connection on the TV must be bad. There is just a lot of hiss an very little sound coming out.

    Thanks for the reply

To be honest the sound out of this TV is a bit of a letdown. You can't really expect much from such a thin TV (less than 20 cm), but it does affect the experience of viewing a bit. I was thankful to remember then, that there is also an audio out from the back, with the standard L and R component cable red and white plugs. I was then a little less than thankful to discover that the sound did not then play through my Hi-Fi. I couldn't find out what the problem was, although I'm sure it's nothing major, and if you are that bothered about it, you can just link up whatever connection you are using to your hi-fi directly, which is what I'm doing with freeview at them moment. It might be a bit of a kick in the teeth if I ever get something with an HDMI output, but meh

Maybe have a look through the manual and see if there is any way to turn this output on or something.

that output will be giving an unamplified signal. whereas the headphone socket on you laptop is an amplified signal. buy a cheap preamp or use the headphone output of your tv.

    cheap pre amp

Nope , thats not it , JBL spyros are an active set of speakers , built in amp ysee, so should handle any line level out , input sensitivity for that particular JBL system is 400mv rms , so if that output on the TV was working there should be no problem.

Either the output on the TV is busted , or its just not selected/turned on.
