San diego Chargers @ New England Patriots
New York Giants @ Green Bay Packers

Who'd guessed? Should be two great games. I think Pats are a given, but the NFC is hard too call. Giants are on some run.

Woot! On the edge of my seat for the end of that game. Looking forward to the finals and bowl, should be good.

The Packers are on some run, too. Looks like a Packers-Patriots SB.

Packers to win by 7. Ryan Grant MVP. :p

Two fantastic games tonight.. If the giants can hold up they may just go to the superbowl.. Incredible run.. Still reckon it will be a Packers-Pats Superbowl...

"Still reckon it will be a Packers-Pats Superbowl..."

Heh, speaking as a giants fan, I'm glad. People took Tampa bay over us, dallas over us, and now greenbay.. keep doing it!
Seriously though, It will be close..Hoping snow won't impact it hugely

I would have liked to see Colts and Patriots again. I think Patriots will win comfortably over the Chargers especially if Rivers and LT are out.

Really glad to see Dallas beaten - old habits - and Tony Romo will have some explaining to do about his cavorting around with Jessica now that he had such a bad game. Watch the press go for him. Of course if they had won he would have been a hero - that's the way it goes.

i kinda half foresaw the events of this weekend, i actually did back all four teams in a very nice accumulator and i cant wait to hit the bookies tomorow!! lol

in fairness the packers giants game is gonna be unbelievably close i feel, the patriots seem to just keep on truckin which i love!! as long as the pats get there im happy, i been a pats fan for 6 years now, this is without a doubt the best team in the nfl history i think, but the added bonus is two of my american football watching mates that ill be watchin the superbowl with, one is a huge giants fan and the other (an american) is a die hard packers fan so there will be an added edge whichever of those teams face us!! if we get there of course....

Very nice, well done. I bet with 6 minutes gone in Green Bay match you were feeling great about the bet :)

    On a limb:

    Chargers 13 Patriots 42
    Giants 24 Packers 38

Superbowl.... I really want the Packers to win it. It hurts me to say it but I do, I'd love for Brett Favre to take one down, no better way to do it than against the Patriots either.

And I think i've said it before but if the Pack do win the big one Favre will have to get MVP regardless of who deserves it more.

I gotta say I think the Giant could upset a few ppl next week the really have come played some great football in the last few weeks since the NE game they've come out fighting and its paying off, nice to see them over that mid season slump they've had the last few years.

The weather will be the big thing with Packers and Giants.

If it snows then I say Packers will walk it

I dont know if they will walk dont forget NY folk are well used to snow and bad weather. Dont know if snow will be a huge advantage to the pack. I want the pack to win though :)

In his interview after the game I found it interesting that Favre said that he had never played in the snow before - a surprise to me - but that he had always wanted to and really enjoyed it. Said it was a lot of fun! I think snow will work for them but the forecast so far says no snow on Sunday.

P.s when people from WI say snow they usually mean snow as in 6 or more inches.

Its gonna be a Pats V Giants final !! with the Giants beating Pats :D

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 25,953 ✭✭✭✭kryogen

bigben brings up an interesting point there, i feel the chargers could, given the right circumstances cause an upset v the pats, i highly doubt it though.... the patriots will be highly motivated for the game for numerous reasons, and one of them is bill belichick! he will not accept anything less then a victory here...

the giants packers game is gonna be really close, really close i think.the giants have really impressed me lately with the strength of character they showing, i think they have what it takes to beat green bay, i just wouldnt like to have to call that one!

i think ill take a week off from betting on the action this week, i have an 8-0 record with the playoffs and that will do!! p.s. the patriots were 11/4 to win the superbowl at the start of the season, how big does that price look now?!! eveytime i look at my bet receipt and see that 11/4 price on it i have to change my underwear!

not tempting fate of course havent won anything yet etc.....

I think the chargers can pull it off to be honest.
If philip Rivers can perform at his best and Ladanian Tomlinson can run well, the Pats could find themselves up ****s creek:p
Lets face it,Rodney Harrison may have been one of the best safetys in the league, but hes getting old,and i think if he has to face Ladanian, then bad things are going to happen.
The main problem for the Chargers O-line and Ladanian in my mind will be actually breaking through to the secondary,im not sure if the Chargers have what it takes to contain Ty Warren,Richard Seymour, and Vince Wilfork....
Its gonna be fun to watch!:)

    A. rivers is a big doubt for the game and B. chargers already met the pats this season.....and em.....how do i put it diplomatically......they got the **** kicked out of them :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,044 ✭✭✭BigBenRoeth

Yeah i didnt hear about Rivers being doubtful....heres hoping he can play.
And yes i know the Pats ****ed em this season....but this is the post season and hopefully the Chargers will come out pumped up and prepared for this one.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,067 ✭✭✭tallaghtoutlaws

As I told Big Ben on MSN if the Pats lose this game I will eat my sideline Pats hat and will post up pics of me doing it.

The chargers struggled against a struggling Colts and Norv Turner is an Idiot and how he is still in a job is beyond me. His play calling and the strong pats D will lose this game for the Chargers.

Patriots will keep LT to a 100 yards or less and force rivers to throw and Rivers will throw Ints. The Chargers will need to stop the Patriots offence.

I think the weather will be a big factor in the Pats match. The chargers wont be used too playing in the freezing cold and it will be a big disadvantage too them.

WIth Rivers or without, he still hasnt had a good game against a half decent D so i think he would really struggle against the Pats.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,224 ✭✭✭✭SantryRed

Really think it's gonna be a Packers Pats Superbowl game.

Think the Packers will have a chance against New England if they play the way they did against the Seahawks last week(except the two fumbles:D)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 25,953 ✭✭✭✭kryogen

ok, heres the thing, both rivers and LT are 99% gonna play, if they can walk they will play, but will they be in the right condition to give it everything and more then they have? which is basically what it will take to beat the pats

their form has been impressive, but they have come against teams that werent exactly setting the world on fire too havent they..... the colts victory looks great, but its not, the colts were in trouble long before this game and were there for the taking.....

the pats are a different prospect, they dont understand the concept of defeat anymore, they have been alot more humble in the build up to this game then many would expect and it seems to me they arent taking anything for granted.

i still cant decide which way to go with the giants/packers game, my head says packers but my heart says giants, i think there is something special happening with this giants team, not sure whether it means they can reach the superbowl or not though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 156 ✭✭fermoyboy

The Giants secondary will be there problem on Sunday. I know they are on a great run at the moment and confidence is high but with so many injuries in the back field it's gonna be really hard to contain the Packers.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 14,575 ✭✭✭✭FlutterinBantam

I fully expect the Packers to have the NFC conference championship well wrapped up before the start of the second half.

People who know me realise that this is a departure from previous forecasts.

Hope it's not as far off the mark!!

If Brady missed practice all week with two bad knees, if Maroney damaged his knee last week and if Watson was hobbled with a dislocated big toe, you might have an argument. However since the situation is reversed I think the Chargers will be out of contention by the end of the 3rd quarter. :D:D:D

    Giants Patriots final :)

I will say this though. People are GROSSLY underestimating the Chargers. The Colts were NOT there for the taking. They had a mini slide after the Patriots defeat but cruised home for the second seed after that. Everyone I know and all pundits were picking them before the Chargers match, no one gave the Chargers a chance. Hardly a sign that the Colts were in bad form. Despite that excellent victory though, the injuries picked up with probably mean that the Patriots will win.

Onto the Giants match. The secondary cover is weak for the Giants. However that won't matter an iota if the Giants succeed in bringing the same pressure that they managed in the second half of the Cowboys game. In fairness Dallas' O line is very good. But that Giants defense wore them down in a very impressive fashion. I expect them to do the same to Green Bay and sneak the match. The big obstacle will be the absolutely freezing conditions (-20 F) predicted.

One problem with that,Tony Romo is not in the same league as Brett Favre, farve will be able to force the passes to his WR quicker, he has more options than Romo in his WR core, and the giants on the other side have to deal with the Green Bay Secondary. Dont think the giants defense will be able to force Favre to make "enough" mistakes or bad options to take the game.

Im a jets fan, and the giants and the packers are two of my favourite teams in the NFC. I want the Giants to win. Really wanna see Eli in the superbowl, but just dont think its gonna happen.

The Chargers struggled last week against a Colts team who didnt turn up. Manning looked lost and it was a scrapy game no real highlights. And most peoples opinion on San Diego are based on the whole season. Other than LT no one has really shown any bite at all. They have been poor all season long. The Colts were strong during the regular season but its all about the playoffs and they choked.

With or with out injuries if the Chergers continue to play as poor as they have been all season and the Patriots come out firing on all cylinders the Patriots will most definitely win. As a Pats fan you gotta have some doubt in the back of your mind and hope that LT we continue to stuff and keep Rivers pressured as these two will stop the chargers.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,525 ✭✭✭vorbis

I'm fairly confident (touch wood) that the Patriots will win.

I disagree with the view of the Colts not turning up. They did! They were on course to have a 14 - 0 lead until Harrison fumbled the ball. Manning had 400 yards passing on the day! Another turnover occured on what the 5 yard line. That one handed interception was somthing else! The Chargers in fairness to them came up big on defence on highly critical moments. Manning played pretty well imo. What killed the Colts was the touchdown drive led by Volek! Its not your day when the other team march up the field with a backup quarterback and second choice running back!

There's a severe weather alert in place at the moment in Green Bay:
THE WIND CHILL ADVISORY IS NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL 12 PM CST SUNDAY.

WEST WINDS OF 10 TO 20 MPH WILL COMBINE WITH SUB-ZERO
TEMPERATURES TO PRODUCE WIND CHILL READINGS FROM 25 TO 35 BELOW
ZERO TODAY THROUGH NOON SUNDAY. WIND CHILLS THIS LOW CAN CAUSE
FROST BITE IN AS LITTLE AS 20 MINUTES.

A WIND CHILL ADVISORY MEANS THAT VERY COLD AIR AND WINDS WILL
COMBINE TO GENERATE BITTER COLD WIND CHILLS. THIS WILL RESULT IN
FROST BITE AND LEAD TO HYPOTHERMIA IF PRECAUTIONS ARE NOT TAKEN.
IF YOU MUST VENTURE OUTDOORS...MAKE SURE YOU WEAR A HAT AND
    GLOVES.

Fancy playing a game of football in those conditions? The alert ends at noon tomorrow, so maybe a "warm" front is on the way. Hopefully, the weather will not disrupt the game too much. Interesting to note that Green Bay's coldest game in recent times (since 1990) was the NFC Championship game against the Panthers in 1997.

Another interesting parallel is that a big star of that game and the MVP of the SB win 2 weeks later was Heisman Trophy winning cast-off Desmond Howard. Now the Packers have another Heisman Trophy winning cast-off who could play a big part, Charles Woodson.

The Chargers struggled last week against a Colts team who didnt turn up. The Colts were strong during the regular season but its all about the playoffs and they choked.

I'm amazed but I think we're almost in agreement here. In fact last weeks defeat didn't feel all that bad as a Colts fan because you knew watching them they simply weren't good enough to go all the way. In particular on defence. there've been much worse defeats to take than that, like the steelers two years ago or the Titans (nee oilers) back in 99.

I don't believe the Chargers are good enough either, they really are not great, but they can't be a million miles away from the team that went 14-2 last year if they were to fire on all cylinders. They have an outside chance if memory of their own divisional defeat at home to the patriots last year can spark them into playing real strong on Sunday. I think that defeat hurt that ball club a lot.

While the patriots are the best team left, they are vulnerable to a team with a monster running game who can dominate the clock.

I'm too supersticious a Pat's fan to say that they'll definitely beat the Chargers, but fingers crossed! I'm wearing my Samuel jersey, as always :o)

Just getting ready to sit down and watch these.

I'm looking forward to the later game more so, and I thought the kick-off times were a bit foolish.

Obviously the usual 1pm and 4pm slots weren't used, as the San Diego and West Coast viewers would have been up for a 10am kick off. I don't see why they didn't schedule the Packers-Giants game for 1pm ET and the Pats-Chargers for 4pm ET (1pm PT), then the Euro fans wouldn't be dreading work as much tomorrow!

Anyway, we all know television rules, so onto the matchups.

My heart says Chargers & Packers, but my head disagrees, and I think we'll see the Pats-Packers, with the Pats going all the way and Brady & co being immortalised (and probably rightly so) as one of the greatest dynasties. I'm not a Patriots fan at all, quite the opposite, but one can't dispute what they've done in the past fsix or seven seasons. I think the Pats will be too strong, especially with Philip Rivers, LaDainian Tomlinson and Antonio Gates all nursing injuries.

Up in the Frozen Tundra, I think Farve and the Packers will edge out what have been an excellent post-season Giants team, and it could be a great game.

Edit: Current Weather Conditions in Foxboro are -6C, wind chill feels like -13C; in Lambeau it's -19C, wind chill feels like -29C!

    Here's what I think:

    Chargers: 14
    Patriots: 38

    Giants: 27
    Packers: 24

I think the Patriots will take a big lead in this one and be uncatchable. However, even though the Chargers beat my beloved Colts last week I'll be rooting for them as underdogs.

Would love to see the Giants go through to the Superbowl, as they have always been my second favourite team, but it's going to be very tough to beat the Packers. A lot will depend on Eli Manning's performance in my opinion.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,155 ✭✭✭juvenal

Good start for the Chargers. Brady picked off for an interception, and the Chargers go up, but unable to get the TD and have to settle for the field goal.
