I'd say Three Rock will? I know a lad who is getting it from 3R with a bit of effort in Kilkenny city/town.

Not Three Rock. You're in the shadow.
    3R in Killkenny sounds implausible.
    Mount Lenister.

Meh, I am having no luck here in Naas. As I posted elsewhere, my analogue signal is quite good and roughly pointed in the same direction as my satellite dish (pointed at astra 2/eurobird).

I hooked up my DTT receiver (mpeg2 only) and got it to scan on the 2k and 8k settings. Nothing, nada, zilch.

Ahhh well.... the search goes on.

I seem to have misplaced my spare scart lead, I must by one tomorrow and try it again.

I saw that map a few weeks ago and figured that in the Mt. Leinster signal was powerfull enough, i should be able to get it.

    Roll on tomorrow night.

Nope, none at all. Unless I am doing something wrong or have a wrong aerial type, I guess I am just out of luck!!!

Tried again last night... still no joy.

Curiouser and and curiouser said Alice to her sister....

    I wonder is it:

    a) My Attic Aerial...
    b) My DTT receiver.

As I said already, I get excellent picture quality on the analogue terrestrials, but can't get a sniff of anything digital from Mount Leinster.

The UHF analogue transmissions from Mt Leinster are in Group A (red colour code)

you will need a wideband aerial to pick up the analogue and digital fom Mt Leinster on the same aerial.

Thanks, I shall look into getting one at the weekend.

MJ you should be able to get in Newbridge no problem got at a mates house in Newbridge with amplified aerial also have a decent signal in wicklow mountains just before lacken coming in from Mt. Leinster aerial using was a 14 element Triax yagi antenna.

Thanks, thats good to know. I'm actually in Naas, but hopefully that wont matter.

I still have to get a wideband aerialk though. B&Q, the only local store selling them only had one left in a ripped box, I figured I would get one elsewhere.

I shall keep you all up to date.

Certain places in Naas will pickup Dundalk better than Mt. Lienster with a suitable aerial. Geography.

That's a expected coverage map for high power analogue, at 500kW.

The DTT signal (if any!) from Mount Leinster will be a lot less at present.

So is mount leinster transmitting DTT at present. I got a loan of a wide band aerial and am getting nothing.

I'd say don't bother trying unless you have high quality reception of the analogue UHF channels (23 and 26) from Mt Leinster: 23 - TG4 and 26 is TV3

It would appear I am getting my analog from Kippure and not Mt.Leinster as my TV3 is on Channel 62 and TG4 is on 59.

That might explain the lack of digital....

Not certain if it is on air at present. As rightly suggested above, you have to be sure that you are picking up Mt Leinster for your existing TV3 and TG4 UHF reception.

As both transmitters have horizontal polarization, the only way you would see from an external aerial is in which general direction its pointing in. When facing north, easterly pointing aerials would be looking at Kippure, while southerly aerials are for Mount Leinster.

How does your TV tune in the analogue stations? If your TV doesn't have the channel numbers explained above, then if you scan in a new station on the UHF band, if TG4 and TV3 come in early, then its almost certainly Mount Leinster. If it scans the band towards the end and then tunes them in, then its Kippure.

I know it's a year old thread but interested if anyone got DTT working in Naas or surrounding areas recently.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,038 ✭✭✭slegs

There is no problem with getting DTT in Newbridge. I can pick up both MT Leinster and Kippure at full power without an amplifier in Kildare Town. Kippure should be loud and clear in Newbridge - may even work with an internal antenna.

Excellent. So what type of antenna/stb do you have?
I assume I don't need one of them ugly 100 foot [slight exaggeration] antenna's sitting on my roof?

I'm happily picking up Kippure in Newbridge with an attic UHF aerial, averaging around 90% signal quality. Running DVBViewer on a laptop with an oldish Toshiba DVB-T card. Installing the PowerDVD9 h.264 codecs as advised on other threads here did the job just fine.

I have a 42 element Unix Wideband antenna. This one below

    http://www.philex.com/parts/show/27884D

It is not like the really big ones you see around. Its about 3 feet long.

I think though you may even get away with something as small as this externally mounted in the wideband aerial.

Try out a cheap external or even internal UHF aerial first to test it out before investing anything over 20eur
