Playing divx in Digital photo frame

Posted this in the Portable media players section but doesn't seem to be much traffic there so will try here since it is Divx related. Excuse me if it sound like a daft question!

I am about to buy a Digital photo frame. Some of them play Divx. Within the features though it states the maximum file size that the machine can play. I have seen maximum file sizes for photos but not for video. If I have say a 700Mb divx film on a USB stick for those digital photo frames that have a USB slot, can I say watch a film in the Digital photo frame?

This might be very far fetched but thanks for your help anyway!

I was asking the same question recently but asking if it there were any DVD photo frames. I wanted to have a photo frame playing an art DVD, would be pretty funky. I don't usually care for novelty ideas like this:o

    :D
it works and its great. obviously not as good as a laptop / tv quality. but have to admit its pretty handy.
as for file sizes, my 7" frame says on the box maximum file size 12mb per photo.
aint seen a limit on anything else.
used my 8gb stick in it with lots of episodes of sg1 and its all fine.

Nope. I really wouldn't want to endure the pain of getting two inches cut off. ;)

    Hi guys

Thanks so much for your help. Royalmarine, I was going to buy the 8 inches Kodak one (Kodak EasyShare SV811) because I haven't seen the Linx one around here. Is the frame nice enough? It's going to be in the sitting room and some of them have horrible horrible platic tacky looking frames! But if you say the Linx one is not very offensive might compare prices and go for that one!

How would you get a DVD to play on one of them? Is it possible? Just rip it to MPG4?

    Pretty much :)

    Thanks for the info :)
That laptopsdirect one doesn't say anything about storage size, is it dependant on having a USB key hooked up to it to play the video so?

Absolutely. They have very little or no internal memory. The small cheap ones have no internal memory at all.

I have to check that Linx one in a bricks and mortar shop. If it is one that I saw yeaterday, and I think it is, it was quite an ugly thing that I will NOT display in my sitting room!

Thanks for that but I am willing to spend up to 190 euros but I want QUALITY. I hear not only the resolution counts but also the brighness and contrast ratio. Also, and depending on the machine, I hear the can form "ghost images" when changing from one photo to another and I somehow trust Kodak more than linx... maybe I'm wrong.

Ok, my mistake. Having read some reviews online looks like the linx and not the Kodak is the way to go. Wll have to have a look at it on the shops.

Thoght I'd just let you know that Argos are now stocking the Linx photo frame!

I did't yet but i will in the next few days. Suposedly 8 inches but reviews say the viewing area is actually smaller than that. 115 euro, excluded from the 16 month money-return guarantee but Arfos are very good if you tell them it is not working or it is malfunctioning. If you just change your mind though, it does not apply to this item!
