    Hi all,

Just wondering if there is a list anywhere online of the dumps that one can take waste like leaves, boxes etc. I know of one in leopardstown but just wondering if there are others?

    many thanks

Most people now frown upon putting anything in a landfill. You should look at recycling and finding one of the municipal recycling centres

Now sure if this is what you are after http://www.dublinwaste.ie/

Leaves make compost, garden manure, avoiding the need to use artificial fertilizers which consume huge amounts of natural gas and other hydrocarbons in their production and distribution. Which also cause river pollution from the runoff after rainfall.

There must be a market for a "garden waste suitable for compost making" type of recycling centre, where people who have got leaves and garden clippings with no use for them can bring them, and customers who want manure can buy the recycled product back.

Learn to compost the leaves yourself and pile up the sticks into a habitat pile. Both can be done in an asthetically pleasing manner even in a small garden. Saves petrol, cost of that petrol, pollution from that petrol, wear on the car, your time and the cost of that time.

It depends on the size and layout of your garden and the amount of vegetation it produces. While I agree that DIY composting and self-use is best, I suspect that there are thousands of people who just want to "dump the stuff".

I had a serious "hair cut" of the vegetation on the terrace of my apartment last year, and it produced 18 black bags of material! There is no way I can compost that, and it ended up in the local incinerator, fuelling my air conditioning.
