    Im very new to this sport but, yeah, I think anyone can set up a team. As the sport is new here (Because it was just legalized at the end of 2006) there isint alot of coordination yet, and there is no governing body for it yet wither. There is the IAA, but they are not the offficial body for the sport yet . . .

    Seems to be growing very fast though.

    And where do you get your information.

    Last time I checked being a duly constituted organisation with elected comittee's and consultation by the government as experts qualified us as the de-facto official body.

    You'd think we were doing it for fun sometimes.

    As for co-ordination, please do check out nearly every other country in the world. By comparisson we are HIGHLY organised with huge ammounts done in the 12 months we have had.

    As for teams. Yes, anyone can set up a team. Airsoft is not a commercialised sport in the same sense as paintball or football. As such its still very much in the hands of amateur enthusiasts and it is their interaction that makes the game. The only thing required to have a team is a few people willing to make the effort to work together regularly.

    Some teams are extremely well organised and have rank structures, uniforms, doctrine and regular training. Other teams are more casual and are populated by infrequent skirmishers.

    At the moment, off the top of my head their are the following teams;

    Ghosts,
    Na Madhrai Seachran,
    Contractors,
    Hawks,
    Tiger Force,
    Bloodhounds (although I havent heard much from them),
    Force Recon (in progress)
    Dead Mans' Hand (coming soon)
    Z Division (no clue if this is actually going ahead)

    I'm probably missing one or two there but plenty of teams and attempts at teams have been put together.

    The players are still very much finding their feet right now with a lot of people finding the aspects they like best as they go. Some are casual skirmishers who just enjoy a tear around a field on a saturday. Others are more interested in the MilSim and enjoy the tactics and such. The teams and the way they play will reflect that.

    Once wwe have Airsoft fully established and secure in the Republic the IAA has plans for small compo's as a prelude and warm up to bigger things.

    Don't mention the .....

    Lets give the benefit of the doubt, 88 is not massively well known as a reference, I didn't know about it until recently.

    I got the name unit88 from a book by Matthew Reilly called Scarecrow.
    In the book unit88 are a team of bounty huntes which wear all black uniforms with meatal storm guns with green laser sights.
    the only reason i chose the name was because i belived it was a cool name and did not no there was any reference to any nazi organisation.i am originaly posted as FOXY-07 and am very sorry for causing any problems.

    Ok, honest mistake.

    We were abit, well i was anyway, suspiscious as new posters bearing such names tend to misbehave a bit.

    Metal Storm guns???? Holy hell in a handbasket. Dear Santa, I would like one of those please. Make that 5,000 actually.

    Back on topic;

    I'm sure there are a lot of teams which are under construction or setting up or what have you. But there are only a smallish number of fully fledged, operational teams with regular meets and training sessions.

    I never tought a name from a book could cause any trouble.

    Its the reference itself 88 (a neo nazi symbol). Its intresting but the author writes a lot about far-right types in his books. thats probably where he got the idea for the name.

    But why did you stop posting as foxy-07?

    Sorry for dropping ya in it. I'm sure you didn't know what 88 means. It's a sad world where an innocent number can have such dark connotations, but there ya go. Can't be too careful with so many wierdos about...
