Microsoft think there is no DTT in Ireland so unless you use 3rd party software you have to select UK

IMO you can cheaply fit a remote feature to ordinary windows and have a better system with mostly free 3rd party SW than XP MCE or Vista MCE, with XP pro.

    What software would you reccomend.

Going to try getting MCE going as you suggested though.

Ok. I selected UK (gave a postcode in belfast when asked). Then it asked me to pick from Freeview, Sky or Unmapped Digital Terrestrial.

Selected unmapped digital terrestrial. Did the scan but not finding anything. I know I should be getting something as my TV is picking it up loud and clear.

I had the same probleem with vista mce. I have downloaded sesamtv and got it working after a while with a bit of perseverence.

this one is much better, scans 1st time.

it may only work with an avermedia card though.

I think that MCE doesn't ignore the encrypted flag in the broadcast signal and therefore doesn't receive the channels.

Same as Akula, I chose the UK, and Unmapped Digital Terrestial, and it worked fine for me. Picking it up on a one-for-all antenna (on the window sill) in Dublin 18, through a haupagge WinTV-HVR-900 on XP MCE.

    Pleasantly surprised in fact...

Hmm. I did some testing with Vista's Media Center app. Although the scan claimed to find nothing, if I went into the settings after the scan completed and configured the programme guide they were all there. It works fine now but the picture quality seems quite poor. I suspect a bit of "codec hell" though.

Nice find Karsini, i now have dtt in vita mce too. I have a perfect picture and use the ffdshow codec pack.

So tempted now to go out and get a DTT card for my computer. Seems a waste to have Media Center and not be using it... :o

Cheers folks, that's worked a treat crystal clear and I can record it if one was so inclined.

The only thing is there a way to get the guide working in MCE?

    Thanks,
    majj

Yeah, I've got it working now too. Cheers for the help.

Can't get the guide working though. Doesn't seem to pull down the listings though.

Me to the rescue again. :)

Go to Settings > TV > Guide > Add Listings to Channel.

Click the channel name and you'll be able to assign it to the listings for one of the four terrestrials. I have my Media Center set to Ireland so I'm assuming that if you choose UK you'll be missing the Irish channels in the list.

I don't know if any of these procedures will work with XP MCE as I don't have an installed copy of it to test.

    Hi Karsini,

Can you confirm that under Vista Media Center, that you used Ireland and were able to get the guide for the 4 Irish stations?

I have a dual boot and for both MCE 2005 and Vista, using UK, Unmapped Digital Terrestial, I got the stations but no guide data. I don't think I can get it for MCE 2005 as I believe it needs to be set to UK to pick up the DTT signal. However, for Vista it allows me to choose Ireland and DTT.

So for Vista how do I get the guide for the 4 Irish stations, would really appreciate the steps you used.

    Thanks,
    majj

Yes I have Media Center set to Ireland and by following the steps I mentioned above I could assign the listings to the four channels.

I don't think XP MCE will work considering you need to select UK for the DVB-T options to become available. You will get the channels but no listings.
